I feel lucky to have grown up in the big apple and now living in Miami. Both beautiful cities are similar but different in so many ways. Manhattan and Miami are both very popular tourist destinations. But what makes them so different? For me, the difference between these exceptional cities are weather, transportation, and lifestyle. In the past, some of my oldest memories in Manhattan are dealing with the weather. Up north they have four seasons; winter, spring, summer, and fall. One of the biggest differences between the north and south is the colder months. Personally, I don’t like the winter. Hence, why I now live in Miami. In the winter up north, the temperatures go down to freezing degrees. When there are blizzards you can’t do …show more content…
It’s a choice you might have to make to decide on how you are going to get to school, work, the grocery store and any other important places you might need to go. Depending on where you are, you will have different options. In New York, you have plenty of trains and buses. You can get anywhere you need to go and not worry about having a car, which can be a lot cheaper in the long run. You won’t have to worry about car insurance, gas, or traffic. With this in mind, you will think that having so many options traffic won’t be such a problem, unfortunately it is. However, thankfully you can travel around the five boroughs without dealing with the traffic if you decide to do so. In Miami, there isn’t a wide range of transportation but there still are options. There are local buses to get around. In the downtown area there is the monorail, which some people will take not to avoid traffic but to avoid parking. Finding places to park can be a challenge. Traffic can be dreadful during rush hours, but if you’re here long enough you learn which highways to take. You also learn where the back roads are to avoid some of the traffic. Furthermore, if you find yourself not being able to avoid the traffic then you always have the option to call an uber, and just relax and sit back. With so many choices to pick from it all depends on what the person prefers. Whichever is chosen the most important thing is to arrive
In John Knowles’ novel, A Separate Piece, the main Character, Gene Forrester, has to learn to become friends with his hazardous roommate, Phineas, at his school, Devon, in New Hampshire. The novel is affected by a number of changes, however the largest and most significant change is the change in seasons. In Thomas C. Foster’s novel, How to read literature like a Professor, chapter twenty explains the significance of the seasons. Foster states that, “Summer [symbolizes] adulthood and romance and fulfillment and passion,” while, “ winter [symbolizes] old age and resentment and death.” John Knowles’ book A Separate Peace, all aspects of Summer, Fall, and Winter are excellently represented as explained in Thomas C. Foster’s novel, How to read
Setting: New York City, where there is “a definite autumn awareness” (238), the streets are claustrophobic and the people appear aloof.
To any one wondering what it’s like to live in Miami, the simple answer would have to be marvelous. Needless to say, it’s impossible to describe what it’s like to live in such an eminent city with just one word. Miami is famous for its beautiful beaches and its Art Deco architecture but most importantly it considered the melting pot of the United States. Living in such a diverse and illustrious city certainly has its perks. The atmosphere is vibrant. The weather is wonderful year round. The city is alive while the suburbs are roaring and growing.
First, Collins uses hyperbole by repeating the word “snow” five times in one sentence: “Chicago’s snowfall was so huge that the news media ran out of things to attach to “snow” - thundersnow! snowpocalypse! snowmageddon!” (Collins). She consecutively uses three portmanteaus of the word "snow" with increasing stress level to create strong feelings. She wants to emphasize that Chicago is experiencing the most massive snowstorm in the United States, one of the consequences of global warming. This is a circumstance that causes people panic. She then reminds the readers about the blizzard of 1979 which made Mayor Michael Bilandic get “kicked out of office six weeks later in the Democratic primary.” It seems that she wants to make a connection between the congressman and a snow job.
Even though the cost of living can be very high most residents never have to worry about paying for a car. Taking a train, subway, or taxi is cheaper than paying for a place to park a car each month and the time it would take to drive through the cities traffic. In the western region of New York seeing an apartment complex isn’t very common, but living in an apartment is considered the norm for the residents that live in New York City because houses are way over priced for the average person. Living in the city compared to a small western region town can help means of transportation, future personal success, and overall make life easier but at a fast
(4) Culturalcentrists are not new to our society. Craving familiarity when entering a new environment is akin to many as a basic survival instinct. The challenges facing immigrants anywhere are timeless and universal from language barriers to dietary challenges. New York City has Chinatown and Little Italy as a result of this. There is "Little Cuba" in Miami. Most recently, Islamic communities have developed in urban areas around their respective mosques. Culturalcentric groups have and will always exist in a nation as diverse culturally, ethnically, racially and religiously as the United States.
While Miami is experiencing some hard times during the past years, it is still a city full of life and opportunity. Cultures come together in Miami like a city unlike no other. It has the fame and glamor, but still suffers from poverty and corruption. It provides many of opportunities for people, especially those coming from Latin America. While Miami is still one of the biggest cities in the United States, I believe it will continue to survive and reclaim its title as the “Magic City”.
Part of the makeup of a New England landscape is the cruel and bitter winters. The engineer establishes the mood of the scenery early on when he mentions the “deadness of the community” (Wharton). Wharton builds on this throughout the book, constantly keeping the image of a cold, snow-covered landscape in the reader’s mind. Even on the nicer winter days, with the snow glistening from

Starkfield Massachusetts is a boring cold farm town. People become very ill there from the terribly harsh winters. Winter greatly affects the actions and behaviors of the characters. No quote better describes the harsh winters of Starkfield, and the effect that it had on the townspeople, than the following:
The marlins park was one of the most unforgettable day of my life. For, I am going to be talking and explain does day could never be forgotten. The biggest difference between summer and winter is the climate. One of the main attractions of summer is the warm weather. I like being outside on a bright sunny day, and letting the sun warm my body. I also like that we get an occasional thunder storm. The excitement fills the air when I see the thunder clouds rolling in. The sound of thunder, and the lighting shows that come from the storms are fascinating. On the other hand winter i...
The weather here in the U.S.changes seasonally. We have four different season here. The different seasons are spring, summer, fall, and winter. These seasons change due to the earth’s tilt of the axis. The way the earth tilts affects the season so if it tilts further downward it’ll start getting warmer but when it tilts up it’ll start to get
