Friendship is an important factor in the life of a human being. Development in human beings requires some aspects of bonding to form a social life. The bonding forms an essential aspect of living referred to as friendship. It forms one of the main theories of human nature. For instance, Aristotle contributed a lot to the philosophy of friendship followed by his counterpart Cicero. Cicero explained the strength of friendship when compared to the bond existing due to kinship. He explained that the friendship required goodwill as explained by Aristotle. However, in his view about friendship Cicero defined friendship as a particular identity that is strengthened by affection and goodwill. According to him, it is the absolute feeling by an individual about everything and anything on earth and heaven. He says that familiarity involves affection and that good will might develop gradually. This means that although people start a relationship through good will, the same state of good will implies that there is still something left to achieve mature affection. Cicero in his philosophical contexts agrees with familiarity as an important factor in friendship. Both philosophers also share a common view of trust. According to Aristotle, a good and sufficient friendship requires mutual trust. On the other hand, Cicero seems to agree with Aristotle while stating that most of the people involve themselves in relationships looking for steadfastness and honesty. The father son bond does not distinctly resemble one of the three types, rather it is a friendship in of itself; a paternal friendship.

Aristotle believes that there are three different kinds of friendship: utility, pleasure, and virtuous friendships. He also argues that a real friendship should be highly valued because it is a complete virtue and he believes it to be greater than honor and justice. Aristotle suggests that human’s love of utility and pleasure is the only reason why the first two types of friendships exist. Aristotle also argues that humans only set up these types of relationships for personal gain. Plato basically believed that all of the virtues boil down to wisdom, and Aristotle believed that virtue must be practiced, and one can still be virtuous and unhappy. Socrates emphasizes that everyone is considered family, and there will be no divided loyalties in the perfect state. Also there would be no private ownership, which is responsible for feuds. Plato 's teacher Socrates believes that a philosopher should become a ruler, or the current ruler should learn philosophy, as philosophers are more aware of how to run the state. Throughout, William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar, the theme of friendship would prove to be a very delicate and manipulative element. This element would be the very entity that would seal Julius Caesar's fate. Brutus, Decius, and all the other conspirators would use this to their power, and to Julius's weakness. Friendship was used as a cover to blind Julius from the truth, from the plots against him. Flattery along with manipulation was used as a way of persuasion to soothe any feelings of doubt or weariness. These essentials would gain trust, the key to all friendships. This trust would be lost and transform into betrayal. Even though Caesar was plotted against and murdered by the likes of Brutus and Cassius, friendship still proved a strong theme because it would cloke the conspirators intentions. Julius was vulnerable to the power of friendship and was blinded by the shrewd ways of Decius, Brutus, and all the other conspirators.
