A Career in Kinesiology

The purpose of this paper is to gather all the strategies needed to be the best I can be in the future, as a professional. I will express all of my personal goals that I will strive to achieve during college. This paper will serve as a road map to my career path, and will help me better understand the job market. Currently my major is in the college of Kinesiology. The reason I have chosen kinesiology is because I am fascinated with the human body, and learning how to take care of it while it is in motion. This assignment calls for me to explore my options in this degree field by taking a career and personality assessment. Then, I will decide on a career, and major choice that interests me most. At this moment I will put forth all of my effort to obtain a degree from Sam Houston State University, and move onto becoming what employers are looking for. The research for this assignment will be coming from the Newton Gresham Library, Writing Center, Career Services, Internet, and O’Net The reason that I fell in love with Kinesiology was the broad career options. If I want I could work alongside children, or take my education a set further and become an Occupational Therapist. Since childhood I have known that I wanted to help people with their physical being. So naturally, it has leaded me to explore the medical field, and participate in clinical rotations. I was able to distinguish that my love would gear more toward helping the elderly restore their mobility in their day to day lives. I have chosen Kinesiology because it will give me the foundation of how the body moves, that way I can take that knowledge to Occupational Therapy school. I determined that they want less fluff and straight forward attributes about myself. When writing a resume it is important to include relevant job experience. Also, to incorporate all skills that would make you look enticing for an employer. During this process I contacted former employers, and intern coordinators to ask if they would be willing to let me use them as references. I wanted to make sure that I still keep in touch with previous employers because I want to make sure they put in a good word if a future employer were to contact them.     In January of 2012, I was playing in the first volleyball tournament of the club season. In the second game of the day, I dove to get a ball and landed wrong on my right wrist. My wrist was constantly popping and hurting when I needed to lift something. In May of 2012, my mother took me to the orthopedic doctor at Athens Orthopedic Clinic. I underwent physical therapy, took pain medicine, and played no volleyball for a month. When the month was up and there was still no improvement, I went to get a MRI. The radiologist said that there was nothing wrong, but my orthopedic referred me to an orthopedic surgeon for a second opinion. It only took a minute for my orthopedic surgeon to see what the problem was: a tear in my TFCC (a cartilage structure located on the small finger side of the wrist that, cushions and supports the small carpal bones in the wrist (Midwest). On August 8, 2013, I had surgery on my wrist. Ever since I’ve had surgery I’ve wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. Although becoming an orthopedic surgeon takes years of education, hours of training, and hours of on-call work, orthopedic surgery’s advantages outnumber the disadvantages.
