There was a movie I watched, (Sister Act 2) but, I just now understand one of the messages in the movie. The movie stated, “If you want to be somebody, and you want to go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention!” I was beginning to believe, that I was always going to be the same person, and that I would always be in the same place, until that moment I woke up and started paying attention. That’s when doors began opening for me. The first door that opened was a move out of my environment. I moved from Detroit to Lansing. My next move was from Lansing to Battle Creek, and my last move was a career change. Every move that happens in our lives is just a move to get closer to the next move. I was going to a place that was unfamiliar, and even sounds scary. I had no friends or family there to support me like I had in the past. Little things like the way it smelled and looked, was so different from what I was used to. Due to the all of the factories in Detroit, the smell of Detroit is awful. I refer the smell of Detroit to, opening a slice of Limburger cheese. Lansing had a much natural smell. Due to a more agriculture environment, Lansing smelled as if you standing in a garden surrounded by blooming lavenders. Detroit community looked like a war zone. During the two year stay in Lansing I made many new friends, became a better organizer, and became a better leader.(Not only did Lansing provide me a place to call my own, but also a place where I was able to call a girl my own). Then another opportunity came my way. I was offered to work at the Kalamazoo store in a higher position. Although at this time it seems as if I …show more content…

While working, I saw how the company was making changes; some were good, and some were bad. There was even talk about stores closing. This left me pondering whether or not I should stay or begin looking into other career options. While thinking about that, I started thinking that I should look for something with more constancy, with less possibility of downsizing. I started looking into changing my career, so I could begin college. I would be the first male in my family to complete college, and to me, that would be a great accomplishment within itself. Not only did I begin my college career in the spring semester, I was able to obtain grades that allowed me to be on the dean’s list. By doing that I am hoping that the males in my family will follow in my foot steps and pursue a college degree. It all goes back to that quote at the beginning of the story, “If you want to be somebody, and you want to go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention!” So yes, I want to be something, and I know with the world changing, education is becoming a key ingredient in the amount of success I will
