There are many different types of schools. State schools are required to deliver the National Curriculum. Community Schools are under the control of the local education authority and have no particular funding from business or faith leadership. The local council owns the school and its grounds and it employs the staff. The council will also decide on the admission criteria and set a catchment area if deemed necessary. Foundation and Trust Schools have much more freedom to do things differently and set their own agendas. A governing body will be responsible for employing the staff and governing body, in most cases, will own the land and buildings. There are many types of SEN schools. Some are Independent, some are voluntary aided and some are community schools. There is no one size fits all type of SEN school. Academy schools and Free Schools are similar to one another. They both have the freedoms to set the curriculum, have greater say on the finances and set teacher pay and conditions. However the Academy school is set up in partnership with central government teams and local government. The Free school is set up as an academy, by teachers, charities, community or faith groups, universities or groups of parents. ( 424 Words) 200 3.
