Recommended: Stopping teenage pregnancy

Do television shows like 16 and Pregnant discourage teen pregnancy? Since the show came out June 11, 2009, teen pregnancy has gone down. The show illustrates the emotional struggle of being pregnant in high school and how hard it is to go to school while taking care of a baby. It points out that it is hard to have a social life and a good relationship at the same time as raising a baby because one has to dedicate all one’s time to the child. This show also shows how hard it is to get a job and support a child. In 2011, 329,797 babies were born in the United States by mothers around the age of 15-19. That is a rate of 31.3 births per every 1,000 girls. In 2012 that number dropped to 29.4 per 1,000 girls. 16 and Pregnant shows girls how hard …show more content…

They have to deal with the looks and the whispers about them. The girls have to deal with being called harsh names because of their mistakes. They get bullied by people on a regular basis. This causes some of the girls to becomes depressed and think less of themselves, which could hurt the baby. Not only do the girls have to deal with the post-baby school days, but they also have to figure out how to raise a child while working on school. Homework is hard enough for any normal teenager, but when there is a baby added into the mix it gets a lot harder. The parents have to figure out who is going to watch the baby while they are in school because they can not take a baby to class with them. Most girls drop out of school when they get pregnant or after they have the baby, and that changes everything. Another hard thing to do is have a normal teenage life while being pregnant or while having a baby. Parents can not go out and party with their friends. They can not bring a baby to a huge party or out with friends. If friends want to go to a theme park or a water park, girls can not go when they are pregnant. The relationship between the two parents will probably have some bumps. The parents have to change their everyday teenage life and one of the parents might not want to
