Depression is an extremely delicate topic. In the novels “13 Reasons Why” by Jay Asher and “The Perks of Being A Wallflower” by Stephan Chbosky do an outstanding job hitting the topic depression. Both novels cover depression in its own style. In one, someone commits suicide while on the contrary, the other person surpasses depression. Support systems are vital during depression, lack of communication as well as self-expression all lead to an easy way out. Anyone who is suffering from depression should have at least one confident to be able to communicate to. Depression is a heavy weighed disease in which one needs all the support one can get. Not only support systems, but also sexual assault can cause depression. Sexual assault has been a social problem for decades. It continues to be a huge problem still to this day. Not only is sexual assault a big problem today in society, but also being scared to be different from this generation. To be unique, to be able to express yourself without any ramifications. The only thing you should be scared is not being themselves just because they’re scared of the outcome of their community. Without any support systems during depression are like flowers without water. How are they going to grow and become a beautiful creation of god without its necessities? It’s almost impossible to succeed. In “The Perks of Being A Wallflower”, Charlie went into high school without a friend. He made a friend named Patrick, who during difficult times, was there for him. Sam, another friend that was introduced to him, developed a crush for. Patrick though, was the one who was there for Charlie when he needed something and was going through a rough time.
