This week’s reading consisted of ways to apply critical thinking to real life issues either in an individual’s employment environment or home life environment. The twelve steps of creative problem solving are a derivative of the critical thinking process that allows individuals to seek solutions to problems in a positive manner (Bethel University, 2013). The first thing that should be aligned before beginning to start the creative process is the individual’s attitude. The individual seeks a positive outcome of their current situation, therefore, the individual should begin with an attitude that is positive, relaxed, and open to suggestions. In this step, the team can freely consider ideas that may work. They can ask “what if?” and reasonably decide if the ideas generated could be a part of the solution based on their findings. For instance, what if the employee only had a list of requirements or what if the employee had a set schedule to follow that included tasks that were predetermined to be included to cut down on improvised work? During the brainstorming session of the creative problem-solving process, the employees would communicate their preferences, likes, dislikes, and would provide possible solutions during this phase. The individual would comb through the notes and be able to evaluate the information effectively. In this phase, the employee is able to see which areas have the strength and those that are weak or need considerable work. By reviewing the recorded information the individual is more prepared to make a clear concise decision regarding a workable solution. The findings may reveal that more work is needed to find a suitable solution, or it could show that the solution is within reach. Either way, for the employee to have a successful creative solution, it should be one that will bring about the change they seek. Some persistence may be necessary for continuing to pursue a solution, however, with intended persistence the employee will find a
