2. Celebrity case – Erin Andrews
a. Erin Matthews was stalked by Michael David Barrett in 2008. Barrett followed Andrews to hotels in Nashville, Tennessee and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he proceeded to tape a nude Matthews via the hotel room peepholes, which he enlarged. A few months later Barrett posted one of the videos and it proceeded to go viral, bringing it to the attention of Matthews, who then filed a case with the authorities. Barrett was arrested on October of 2009 for interstate stalking by the FBI. He subsequently pleaded to the charges which were filed against him and was sentenced to thirty months in prison, probation after release and was ordered to pay fines and restitution. ("Stalker gets 2 years," 2010) He was released on July of 2012.
b. The stalker, Michael David Barrett flew to Nashville, Tennessee and Milwaukee, Wisconsin in order to stalk Erin Andrews. He rented rooms beside Ms. Andrew’s rooms and proceeded to enlarged the peepholes of the hotel rooms where Erin was staying, the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, and the Radisson Airport Hotel in Milwaukee, in order to video tape Ms. Matthews in the nude.
c. Miss Mathews is still haunted by the incident. She continues her fight to get the video that was released and became viral off the internet. She’s asked websites to take down the video of her that went viral off their pages, but they all refuse, which is why she must purchase the copyright to the video of her own body so that she’s armed with it when demanding that the sites delete it. She has stated that when the video was first released, she was embarrassed, ashamed and because she did not want to disrobe at all, she did not change her clothes for a few days. She...

When they feel rejected they can become extremely violent towards whoever they feel rejected them. Celebrities need to be made aware of how to handle stalkers, so that when they are faced with the problem they can deal with it properly. A forensic science graduate states, "Risk management strategies for this type should emphasize the need for professional protection of the target despite the low frequency risk of violence, since the injury is likely to be more serious if violence does occur …" (Mohandie). Many celebrities won't go to the police to report stalkers because they do not believe it is a real problem. This does not help them get the stalker to go away. In 2001 Gwyneth filed a restraining order against Dante Soiu. The outcome of this case was that Dante Soiu was arrested and now has a life prison sentence. He was also declared as "mentally unstable" which gained him a place in a mental institution in California.
It all started in 2008, when Caylee Anthony, a 2year old child went missing. The 2 year old’s mother, Casey Anthony stated to the police that the last time she has seen her daughter was when she dropped her off to the child’s babysitter. At even that time, it wasn’t Casey who reported Caylee’s death; it was the grandmother, Cynthia Anthony, who was also known in this case at Cindy. Richard Speck is without a doubt what is considered a chronic offender having been arrested over 40 times prior to committing the crime for which he is best known; the 1966 murder, rape, and robbery of eight student nurses. His victims were female students between the ages of 19 and 24 who lived together on Chicago's South Side. Maryclaire Dale’s article “Kindergarten kidnapper tells girl, ‘I’m not a monster’”, appears in the Bucks County Courier Times and it tells the people of Bucks County how a woman kidnapped a kindergartener from school. In Philadelphia during January of 2013, a girl was taken from her kindergarten classroom and “sexually tortured during a bizarre overnight ordeal.” The girl was an 8-year-old and she had been abducted by “former day care worker Christina Regusters”, who was 22 years old. Christina was sentenced to 40 years to life. The judge called the crime, “a horror show” because the 8-year-old girl was found “shivering under playground equipment” half naked. They argue that the typical serial murderer travels around, usually state to state, searching for victims to rape, torture, and murder. Very few murders are driven by delusions and are not medically or legally sick.
