Introduction:

In the past few years, according to Diana Koelliker from Telluride Medical , a number of energy drinks have entered the market to provide all of us with a quick boost of energy, easily. These drinks usually contain high levels of caffeine and other additives that act as stimulants. Sometimes we need the extra pick me up to get us through the rest of the day or to help us stay awake while studying for an exam. So, what better way to do that then to grab a Red Bull or a Monster? Well studies have shown that energy drinks just may not be our best option.

Transition: Because they have so much extra sugar and additives, energy drinks can cause more problems to our bodies than it’s actually worth.

Brown University’s definition of an energy drink is: “ A beverage like Red Bull, Rock Star, or Monster, which contain large doses of caffeine and other legal stimulants like guarana and ginseng. The amount of caffeine in an energy drink can range from 75 milligrams to over 200 milligrams in per serving- compared to 43 milligrams in Coke and 55 milligrams in Mountain Dew. If a drink advertises no caffeine, the energy comes from guarana, which is the equivalent of caffeine. The 5- hour energy drinks advertises “ no crash,” but this claim is referring to no “sugar crash” because the drink has artificial sweetners.”

We always hear about how how bad it can be to get too much caffeine, too much sugar, too much .. well a lot of things. Okay, we all know too much of anything can be bad for our bodies, but we never hear a reason why all theses things are bad. So, what could be the possible effects you ask? Well here is a few that the Caffeine Informer has shared on their website:
