Competency based questions

For each of the following questions, please give a specific example that relates to how you have developed your skill in this area. The word limit is a maximum of 200 words per question.

Question 1: Describe a time when you have worked as part of a team. What role did you play and what challenges did you overcome?

When there is a team situation, I would like to step back and try to listen to everyone's ideas first. I usually do not take a direct leadership role, but instead I observe first, and listen carefully to everyone's ideas and when I have an idea I bring it up in an organized way. I don't just shout out a random idea.

However, I usually try to take other people's ideas along with my own and offer suggestions to them. I like to be organized in a manner. Usually I am the one who refines to other people's ideas, and go deeper into the organization, to make things as efficient and effective as possible. I find it easier to really reflect on everyone's input when I am not the center of attention, like the leader of the group would be.

In the future I think I should take more of a leadership role because I am a very good listener and I like things to be planned as well as possible. But at the same time, if I were to take a leadership role, I would need to be careful not to forget to listen to everyone's input as that is the main point of concern.

In my early childhood days, I was a team leader for several years, bringing my team together to reach our goals. Showing and teaching each person on the team how they helped to make it work. If I was doing this today, I would learn not to try to talk so fast, jumping to get my say in. I would...

Building long-term relationships with customers and other stakeholders is one of the most important aspects of marketing. Therefore, interpersonal skills must be combined with the ability to respond quickly to customers' suggestions, wants, and complaints, especially in service recovery.

A marketer must be able to use technology to find information and apply that information in the decision-making process. Today, this means being familiar with the Internet and social media, using e-mail, and conducting information searches by computer, including database research.
