In today’s society that we live in, there are countless of environmental problems that we face, such as global warming, fishing, pollution, and many other topics of that matter. These issues have affected our environment for the worse and have caused problems physically and economically. Yet, out of all the issues that effects our world on a daily basis, it is shown that overpopulation is one if not, is our biggest issue in our environment that is only getting worse due time, especially due to the rapid growth of the human population and the limited resources that are left on earth that we absolutely need to tend to our growing population. Even Dr. Charles A. Hall, who is a systems ecologist, states that, “Overpopulation is the only problem, If we had 100 million people on Earth or better yet 10 million, no others would be a problem.” Which helps prove that overpopulation is a major issue that we must act upon if we want to save our world.
Overpopulation is a real significant reason why today's current environmental status is in such critical condition. A few of the issues that overpopulation contributes to are things such as global warming, water shortages, ocean depletion, and even food shortages. Another major effect that world overpopulation displays is acid rain, which can be caused by air pollution. Air pollution is usually created from the burning of fossil fuels which operate in things like planes, cars, and also trucks. So by burning the fossil fuels and deforesting, the earth ends up turning up the gas levels in the greenhouse. This then creates a major increase in the air and starts to heat up the earth, which potentially could lead to an abundant of dangerous effects such as the depletion of the ozone layer. Also,...

Consequences of overpopulation could even result to making earth not even livable anymore and force to look for another planet to reside in. This is a problem that will take the effort of everyone in our population to solve and make it as not as much of threat that it is now. Hopefully we realize the affects overpopulation can have on our world and the people in it, and find a way to resolve the issue. Though from my research, the effects of overpopulation look inevitable and sooner or later will take course.

The world’s population is rising rapidly from seven billion to the estimated nine billion in 2050 (Ellis, Overpopulation is Not the Problem). Every human being adds stress to the Earth’s resources. Numerous places like Africa and China maintain a copious amount starvation and poverty. There are days when people go without food, water, or shelter. There is even such happening in the United States. In such places, it is difficult to find contraception, or birth control, which leads to unplanned pregnancies. These situations are rooted down to overpopulation, which is when there are too many humans. However, there is a multitude of ways to reverse such negative effects. Population control is a necessary act that will benefit the world through sparing natural resources, decreasing famine, and controlling unplanned pregnancies. About ten years ago while in a science museum, I saw a counter that estimated what the world population was at that given moment. Innocuous at first glance, since a number in excess of five billion is difficult to comprehend, what became alarming after watching the counter for a minute was the continual increase in the population. Thinking about the circumstances related to the population rise logically made the problem seem apparent. The earth is finite both in terms of physical size and in resources but the population is growing towards an infinite value. At some point the steadily rising population will move from being a problem that is geographically distant to one that is immediate and more salient than just an increasing value on a faceless counter.
Jacques-Yves Cousteau once said, “Overconsumption and overpopulation underlie every environmental problem we face today” (“Population,” Internet). With the current statistics, Jacques could not be more accurate. Every second, 4.2 people are born and 1.8 people die, which would be a net gain of 2.4 people per second (“Population,” Internet). At this steady rate, the environmental health is spiraling downwards, and it is safe to assume humans are responsible for this. The Earth will soon not be able to sustain life if the population continues to escalate. Not only this, but population can cause complicated problems to the countries with very high population.
