...be opened up I feel as if Briscoe really did restore faith in politics to the citizens of the state of Texas. Both of these policies are still challenged and seen to be upheld today in our society, I feel that is the true definition of a great policy or policies. A policy must stand its ground and stand its ground over time in order for it to be seen as a great bill and I believe both of these do just that. Having said that I believe both of these bills are two of the most substantial in their own fields that they apply. Therefore, one can say Briscoe is responsible for two of Texas’s best policies, since he was governor when they were implemented.

Hill a market engineer was known best for being the builder of the Great Northern railroad. He was the onl y entrepreneur in the ninetiinth century who did not get any goverment funds to build his rail roads. His philosophy guided him to succeed and flourish through all the depression and fierce competion, receiving no tax payers dollars. He build the most efficient railroad lines, building the line straight as possible, taking in consideration the best elevations and useing the highest quality bessemer rails. Because he took no Federal aid he formed private contracts with Indian reservations in North Dakota and Montana. Doing this let him cut fuel costs alot and made rail repairs very low. He also Promoted exports, by giving land to immigrant along the line and showed them how to farm. He did experiments on what could be grown and how to produce it in the best way and the best quality. Doing this he was able to export wheat from the farms and also increase the population of the region. Then another thing that made him strive was he only expanded as profits allowed. He moved way slower than the other railroad companys, but when he was done his finances were well in order and sound. The local governments in Texas are smaller units that form part of the larger state government. These local government extensions act as the administrative branch of the state government. The state of Texas relies mainly on its constitution of 1876 to establish the various local government jurisdictions. Currently, there are 254 counties, 50 cities, 1,100 education districts and 2,393 special districts in the state serving a population of 26 million people (Collier et al.). Each of these branches of the local government has specific roles, which they are supposed to play.
Toward the end of the legislative session, fear rises as bills line up at the Texas governor’s desk. With the governor’s power of vetoes, it seems that lawmakers in Texas are losing their power. In Texas, the governor, Greg Abbott has the power to veto any bill that is present to him with no limit. During the recent session, 6,968 bills were sent to the governor’s desk for approval. Abbott will not make a decision until the legislative period is over to avoid challenges and to make his decision permanent. During these last few weeks of the legislative period, the governor holds a tremendous power over the lawmakers. Lawmakers are inclined to “curry favors” with the governor in order to get their bills passed. Greg Abbott, for example, has

In 1973, Porter begins his political career as a representative in the Illinois State House of Representatives. As a State legislator, Porter earned plaudits for his leadership and legislative skills. Porter’s success on the state House is obvious when one considers at one point he steered 60 separate bills to final House passage without a single defeat in 6 years. He would serve on the state House until 1979. From there, he was elected to his first term of office on the U.S. House of Representatives.
A governor’s formal powers include the tenure of the office, power of appointment, power to veto legislation, responsibility for preparing the budget, authority to reorganize the executive branch, and the right to retain professional staff in the governor’s office. These institutional powers give governors the potential to carry out the duties of office as they see fit. However, the formal powers vary considerably from state to state (Bowman, Kearney, 2011). The governor of Texas is in general the most known state official and usually at the center of state government and politics. As such an important part of the Texas government, the governor has many powers, both formal and informal.
What makes Texas the wonderful state that it is now? The home that you feel welcomed at, and the loving people around you. We can thank our heroes that gave their lives for us to be in peace. Stephen F. Austin is one of history's heroes we would never forget about. Stephen F. Austin showed leadership during the years of 1821-1836 , he is recognized in so many ways in Texas; the capital city, a county, and a college are named after him. He made our state proud and thankful. His statue is in the national capital was put there by grateful citizens of the Lone Star State. James Bowie is another well-known hero of Texas. He was a famous formidable knife fighter and the defender of the Alamo. As a child, Jim Bowie learned how to survive on their

In 1835, Stephen F. Austin “Father of Texas” traveled to Mexico City while the Mexican government was undergoing adversity. He traveled to Mexico City to petition for Texas to establish its own government. Austin had no success in doing so. President of Mexico Santa Anna suspended the 1824 Mexican Constitution and while doing this, he imprisoned Austin for citing the concept of change. When Santa Anna these actions, he led a lot of groups to start a rebellion. This led to the Battle of Alamo. The Battle of Alamo started in December 1835 after Austin tried to make Texas its own governing body. Santa Anna, determined to push his political ways, marched to San Antonio with his 4,000 army men; however, Austin’s group was prepared so this would

While each state should be aware of the environmental needs that are most important to address, environmental policy should be beneficial to all. This means that Texas and the federal government need to learn how to work together more efficiently. “As is often the case in environmental policy, environmental outcomes occur at a rate incompatible with political agendas: In addition, a multitude of possibly confounding variables makes it difficult to correlate collaborative governance processes with environmental outcomes.” (Biddle) It is crucial for Texas to drop its “Don’t Tread on Me” state of mind for the greater good of our environment. Selfishness has no place here. Without any compromise, the destruction of Texas’s environment could very well impact other states and become a landslide effect throughout the country.

Texas politics is long and at times very complicated, due to the amount of state constitutions they have gone through, especially the one we follow today. The first state constitution was in 1827 before Texas gained its independence from Mexico, due to the fighting and Texas achieving its independence in 1836 a new constitution had to be adopted. A few years later a new constitution was needed when Texas joined the United States in 1845. However, when Texas seceded from the United States at the beginning of the Civil War in 1861, a new constitution had to be drafted. After the civil war in 1866, yet another constitution had to be written for Texas to re-join the union. Three years later during the reconstruction of 1869, Republicans took control
This presidential election is the first time since 1996 a republican candidate has trailed by fewer than 13 points in Texas, and no Democrat has ever won Texas since Carter in 1976 (Content Display Issues). This election is a crazy one that I will always remember there have been a lot of swings this year mainly because of the new information that we keep finding out from each candidate. This election is wide open for any bodies taking, because every day you see new information about the candidates. You turn on the television and are talking about Clinton’s emails or some lady claiming something about Trump. These are for sure not two of the best candidates for President, but we don’t seem to have another choice. One of these people will be
