John states that “The declaration of independence is the usual name of a statement adopted by the continental congress on July 4, 1776, which announced that the thirteen American colonies, then at war with Great Britain regarded themselves as 13 newly independent sovereign and no longer a part of the British Empire.” The Declaration of independence means liberation of the nation and its people from powerful nation and the colonizer. When a particular nation is independent, she starts setting supreme laws under which the government functions based on legislative, executive and judiciary. These three branches and other laws are basically under the supreme law which is so called the Constitution. “The American scholar” in fact reflects the values of Declaration of Independence and the American constitution to a great extent, especially unification of Americans, strengthening of their ideologies and redefining their identities. According to Emerson, Americans must divert the kind of literature that they are following that is the European style. He believes that transforming their writings will definitely change their perception, their ideologies and certainly bring them together which will help in bringing their independence. “By and by it finds how to join two things and see in them one nature; then three , then three thousand; so, tyrannized over by its own unifying instinct , it goes on tying things together, diminishing anomalies, discovering roots running underground whereby contrary and remote things cohere and flower out from one stem” said Emerson. It motivated the public to dream the ideal in order to enact and free the minds. The extent of American scholar’s influence on the declaration of independence and American constitution was immense, to recapitulate the major impacts, the unifying of the Americans, rebuilding their perceptions and redefining their identities were some of the quintessential events.
