Many skilled educators never journey beyond the Master's level in education. Before you take the plunge into the highest level of education, there are many factors to consider. This paper explores some of the benchmarks for the doctoral candidate. Also, this paper considers the features that a quality doctoral school offers.
The Doctoral Journey
Almost all teachers, certainly all public school teachers who want to obtain tenure, will seek and complete a master's level of study in the subject that they are teaching, or in education. This is not a benchmark to measure teachers by, but a requirement in all of America's public school districts. Not all will continue to a doctoral study. Many teachers find satisfaction with their economic, career and development without pursuing a doctorate. There are important benchmarks of doctoral study to consider before beginning.
First, in today's uncertain job market, obtaining a doctoral degree does not guarntee employment at a higher level, or higher pay. Secondly,
a doctoral journey can be a long process, with many benchmarks for the students' dissertation to satisfy. Many students have left dissertations in progress and unfinished, because job and familiy committments have been a higher priority.
Benchmarks to Consider Before Beginning a Doctoral Program
Before beginning a doctoral program , a student needs to be able to committ a block of time each week for their study. Timing is important as most adult students are already juggling job and family duties. If you have just started a new job and also have had a new baby, the time is probably not right. So, a benchmark for beginning a doctoral program would be the ...

Often, the steps to completing a dissertation is outlined as benchmarks of a doctoral program.
Summary
A doctoral candidate needs to have the desire to tackle a long study involving research and discussion, and have ample time to devote to study.
There is no guarantee that job prospects will increase at all, and unless the tuition is being paid by an employer, the student debt will increase.
A doctoral program in education should have an open and accepting attitude to all qualified candidates, and provide an atmosphere of critical
and analytical discussion leading to creation of methods of improving the educational field.

The characteristics of a Scholar-Practitioner are as follows. They are scholars who “possess a deeper understanding of a subject matter.” At this level the scholar is able to apply knowledge gained in training, engage in a higher caliber of research, recognize evidence to test alternative explanations, provide competing hypothesis, and are able to view things from multiple perspectives. One must strive to become a Scholar-Practitioner, an expert in their
The intentions of this paper are first to establish a personal statement for the Carney Sandoe institute: a Global Faculty Recruitment, Leadership Search and Strategic Consulting Service for Independent and Like-Kind Schools. With over 35 years of experience, Carney Sandoe is a leader in Independent School recruiting. My personal statement both markets me to Independent schools as well as reveals my stance on educational psychology. The rest of this paper will extrapolate my educational psychology stance by first identifying the context in which I will be an educator and then defining my developed understanding of the role of teacher and learner.
166-173). Linda Darling-Hammond (2000) discusses how teacher education has changed and how it has affected our education system (p. 166). The author also notes how even the most intelligent people found it hard to prosper in the field without the right skills and preparation (Darling-Hammond, 2000, p. 166-173). In the article, she presents how post baccalaureate programs are carefully structured, versus alternative routes which can be no more than backup employment options. Darling-Hammond (2000) also addresses how it becomes difficult for aspiring teachers to learn both subject matter and pedagogy (p.
There are few decisions in life that will affect you as profoundly as the decision to seek higher education. The degree you earn is both a ticket to personal and professional fulfillment and a badge representing hard work and dedication. The world is built by people who have trusted to their own unshaken will in hope and in despair. Those are the heroes, the idealists who amidst the gulf of solitude more isolating than that, which surrounds a dying man, could think great about their future. Their lives foment many spirited acolytes for whom destiny is no matter, a chance, but a matter of choice and it is nothing to be waited for, but a thing to be achieved. I wish to place as one among them.

Baker and Pifer present a strong argument for more research in the role that relationships play in a doctoral student’s journey. The authors refer to the doctoral journey being a three stage process; stage 1 occurs from admission through the first year of coursework, stage 2 is the completion of course work through the start of the distortion process, and stage 3 the student focuses on the completion of their dissertation. While the authors found that prior research has been done examining both stages
Most students will acquire a huge debt in college forcing them to find a job or multiple jobs to support themselves. In the study, “The Myth of the Student Loan Crisis” it disagrees that student loans are a problem, but the numbers of students who have earned a degree and do not use it in their field of work is astronomically growing. Student loans are causing people to have to settle for low-paying jobs, because they are having to pay month to month. Per a study by Jesse Rothstein most people with college loans will have a low-paying public job like waiting tables or becoming a secretary. People go to college and major in a subject because they want to love and be successful in their job. The debts they acquire push them away from their dreams and into a mountain of debt that some people never recover from. This will also stop people from buying houses, cars, and other any luxuries they might have
Throughout my undergraduate work I have engaged in a variety of activities to help prepare my for graduate study. One such activity is my involvement in research. This past summer I participated in a research project with a UNI professor, Dr. Augustine Osman. Our research involved the examination of the psychometric properties of the Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale (PASS) in a community sample. I performed basic data entry and ran SPSS-X programs for manova, correlation, and reliability. For two to three hours a day, over an eight week period, my research experience involved discussions on issues of psychometrics as well as learning how to transcribe and run several programs used in factor analysis. Through this experience I have also become familiar with the process of research revision and publication. In fact, I will be listed as a co-author upon publication of this work.
Attend Walden University residencies equipped with a research question for my doctoral capstone. This step is aligned to my strength of being able to learn new things, and in the case of my goal to obtain a DBA I need this information from the residency to be successful.

Every year, more baby boomer teachers retire and the number of enrolled children in school increases. There is a growing need for educational professionals to provide leadership, improve teaching quality and help facilitate educational system reformation. Students who get a master's in education are prepared to positively impact children during their critical developmental years. A master’s in education will empower the graduate with key competencies, a strong knowledge base and effective problem solving skills.
The academic journey from my childhood up to my ongoing college experience was an important role in defining who I am as an individual. Like any other person, I eventually gained the understanding and importance of essential qualities like time management, work ethic, developing strong mental mindset, and many other things throughout my years of education. Fortunately for me, I became aware of these things much earlier than my peers around me. However, being aware of these things was only a fraction towards success. Over time I’ve realized that the most critical part of success was gaining the discipline and willpower to apply these lessons and concepts.
This chapter discussed the reflection on the project and the wider implications of the project, and demonstrated the reflection on the MA experience. In a word, the major project and the MA experience gave me an extraordinary chance to carry on the higher education and learn new and advanced learning skills.
We might have an excellent study facility, an inspiring facilitator, a good and understandable employer or management but none of this thing makes different and matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. From the small acorns great oak trees grows, You got to train for it, work for it, learn for it, put all the effort and focus with your goal to succeed as quotes by Wiston Churchill “You are master of your fate”. Thank You.
President George Bush’s “No Child Left Behind Act” fails to focus on the recruitment and diversity within the profession. He sets a goal for the year 2005 for every classroom to have a quality teacher but no goal for retaining these teachers. The improvement of the profession requires a national step-by-step effort. The purpose of this paper was to gather and explore information on the teaching profession and with it explore the shortage within in order to educate and strike up reform. It is clear, that reform will require a lot of time and money. The end product however, will show success within the profession thereby equaling success in the classroom. Success comes when present in the classrooms are caring and committed teachers, all with the goal of education and diversity is among them. .
