An issue that has been highly debatable in the recent years are the gun laws. Many believe that due to recent events that the gun laws should be changed. On the other hand, people believe that guns are not the true issue and want to keep the laws the same as they are. Both sides have very strong evidence to help support their claim. They discuss issues such as mental stability, the Constitution, and the type of gun that is legal to own. Those that are in favor of changing gun laws believe due to recent events such as Sandy Hook, The laws should ban gun ownership to a citizen unless they are certified to own one. The citizens that oppose changing gun laws are saying people need self defense and bring up the recent Boston Bomber incident. Those that are trying to change the gun laws are saying that the Constitution was written a long time ago and needs to be updated about a person’s self defense. Those who are against change are saying that the Constitution cannot be changed because the guns aren’t to blame but the people that are using them. Finally, the type of gun a person can own is a huge issue between both sides. Those who agree in changing the laws are saying semi automatic guns should be banned. While those who are against changing the laws are saying semi automatic guns can be used for hunting and sport. The only way to reach a compromise between both sides are to have a proper vote throughout the Untied States and come to a conclusion on what guns should be banned.

...oth sides, a country vote needs to take place. The amount of US citizen will help both sides show what the correct answer is when it comes down to changing the laws or not. If people feel threaten by someone who owns a semiautomatic gun, they can voice their opinion on a vote. When all these votes are counted up, that should be the final say if guns should be ban, what types of guns can be ban, and if the Constitution of the Untied States needs to be updated.

‘Useless laws weaken necessary laws.’ --- Charles de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu (1689-1775) Importantly, gun ownership doesn’t create a violent society, but lenient gun control does. Nevertheless, bans do not make something disappear, rather harder to control! Therefore a strict, uniform federal gun control system is far more essential so as to ensure no collateral effects of any gun uses!
Gun violence in the United States is higher than ever, and criminals with guns will “…kill as many as 1000 people each day” (Alpers&Wilson). Taking this into perspective, it is only right to fight fire with fire or, in this case, use a gun to protect yourself and those around you. Gun control does not only decrease the ability for protection, it also decreases our rights as U.S citizens. The constitution clearly states that we are given the right to bear arms, meaning we may carry fire arms. Even if we have stricter laws for guns, it will not stop killers from shooting innocent people. These men and women causing damage to the lives of numerous individuals do not care if there is a law banning guns, because all they truly want to do is hurt others. The pain citizens endure every day from losing a family member, friend, or even just a colleague is repulsive. These permanent deaths continue to make people fearful and it causes damage in their lives; unless something is done. Most people agree that action needs to be taken to stop this inhumane cruelty, but the question is; what can be done? Americans need protection, rights, and power to break this inexcusable gun violence circling America. Gun restrictions for trustworthy and reliable gun owners have not been proven to weaken gun violence in the United States; therefore, gun control should be limited because it is only hurting America, not helping it.

The right to bear arms has been an important conversation in America for decades. As of recent tragedies such as the Sandy Hook shooting and the Aurora Colorado Theater shooting, the debate is more heated than ever. From large-scale massacres to single fatality shootings, gun violence is unwarranted and heartbreaking. However, the Second Amendment protects individual citizens’ right to own firearms: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” it states (Bill of Rights). Although this part of the Bill of Rights has not been changed in United States’ history, some citizens argue that, because the Constitution is a working document, this should be adapted to fit current needs and protect communities. Citizens who wish tip the scale in favor of the community’s protection argue that guns are dangerous, easy to access, popular weapons that allow disgruntled or mentally unstable citizens to “inflict mass causalities” and were originally only intended for use in a militia (Joe Messerli). On the other hand, those who wish to benefit civilians argue that taking away guns restrains individual liberty and that gun control would prove futile because criminals would find ways such as the black market to obtain guns, weapons can serve as self-defense prevent crimes, and reasonable restrictions would be more effective than an outright ban (Joe Messerli). Both arguments have valid, well developed ideas, and both sides tend to be passionate in debate.

The debate over gun control in America has constantly been brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of people in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anyone that has been affected by the shootings has been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on the government. Over the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support.
