Ravi Landeck Short Story Third Draft The Diamonds Deep in the Alps lies a small town called Clay. The sun was rising over a frosty blue mountain, and drops of dew dripped down from the leaves in the valley. Arthur awoke to find his bedroom filled with light. He went downstairs and drank a glass of water, not hungry enough for food. Arthur went outside into the chilly morning and started walking down the road. The road was lined with hundreds of huge alpine trees. A large flock of birds flew over Arthur’s head in the sky. “Arthur! Hey Arthur!” Arthur turned his head to see his two friends James and Derek . The three of them had been best friends for years. “Hey guys” Arthur said. James winked at him. “Guess who got lucky last night.” Arthur smiled and started walking away. “You?” Derek said smiling. “I don’t believe it”. James and Derek followed Arthur, walking on either side of him. “You should have seen her.” The sky was bright blue. Vast clouds floated between the colossal mountain peaks. “Lets go into town. I need cigarettes.” Derek said. “You really should quit those” James said. Derek punched him in the arm, “Oh shut up.” Arthur laughed. A cold and fierce wind suddenly swirled into their faces. The three boys went off the road down a hill into the woods. Derek looked straight ahead and said “This way!” Dim patches of light shined down through trees onto the dark forest floor. Derek led the three under a log and over a hill, then started cutting randomly through patches of forest. “Where are you going?” James asked. “This is a shortcut!” “You idiot this will just get us lost”. ”No, I’m sure this is a shortcut!” replied Derek. James turned to Arthur “We should just go around”. But Arth... ... middle of paper ... ...inst the edge of the bridge and yelling out. Then, Arthur kicked out Dereks foot and spun him with all his strength. He pulled Derek’s arms with a tight grip. Breaking Derek’s balance. He gave Derek a hard shove. Derek was sent sailing off the bridge screaming, crashing down on the rocks hundreds of feet below. Arthur cried and picked up the bag of diamonds. Two years later James drove up to visit Arthur’s mansion villa in his sports car. James and Arthur were now both multi millionaires. James had survived the knife wound, and was in better shape than ever. Arthur never forgot the horrible events that were caused by a man’s greed, and donated much of his wealth to charities. The two had split up the diamonds and sold them in Antwerp, each making over 200 million dollars. To this day they never found out how the diamonds had ended up there in that forest.
