I have always wanted to go to a large university with over 20,000 students and a huge campus. As a high school junior, I looked into applying to both University of Massachusetts Amherst and University of Connecticut Storrs. However in the end I only applied to University of Massachusetts Amherst due to various reasons. And I came here knowing I would change myself to be a better person.

I am the youngest daughter of three daughters of my parents. As a child and even today I am more pampered and protected than my elder sisters are. Until the age of 14 I never stayed away from home without my mother. Even though UConn is the same distance away from my home in Burlington, Massachusetts as UMass is, the fact that UMass is out of state was a big deal to my parents and me. Also my elder sister was attending UMass for the 4th year as I entered as a freshman. Even though at age 17 I had finally been living by myself with a roommate and without my parents, my parents eased their mind knowing my sister is here to take care of me. However that did not happen. My sister was in her senior year when I was a freshman and she was pursuing a double major and a minor. She had a very busy life. It was a bummer at first. I expected my sister to show me around to where my classes are in this huge campus. But she didn’t have time for me. That turned out to be the best thing that had ever happened to me. Being stranded away from home with no one, who is close to me, to guide me, made me learn how to survive in the real world with real and very different people. I have broken out of my shell and now I know how to take care of myself in even difficult situations. I have learned to decide for myself what is right and wrong and good and bad for me. I figur...

...ly exactly what UConn can offer me that UMass could not. I found various reasons to come to UConn. First of all, UConn offers Physiology and Neurobiology as a major in its College of Liberal Arts and Science. Not only is this major more closely related to my interests but also this major at this specific college will be more awarding because CLAS is among the top research institutions in the country. So my second reason to want to attend UConn is because I want to be part of some research in my undergraduate career and be a part of a new discovery before I embark on my journey to become a physician. And my third reason is UConn has to offer its great reputation. UConn is among top universities in the nation and it is highest ranked public university in New England. I want to proudly graduate from University of Connecticut and be happy with my undergraduate experience.
