Imagine having to spend half your fortune on correcting your teeth.”Tooth decay was a perennial national problem that meant a mouthful of silver for patients, and for dentists a pocketful of gold.” (Wallis, 17) If patients don’t take care of their teeth, many issues can start to appear later in their life. Some patients are not knowledgeable of the correct procedures toward keeping a healthy smile. In order to keep a healthy smile patients must be better informed about the knowledge to achieve that success and also maintain.

Hygienist are the dentists who educate their patients on the importance of oral health care. Hygienist examine any chipped tooth,damage filling,discolored or swollen gums, and also take x-rays, and help prevent tooth decay. Today, dental care focuses on prevention. Preventing tooth decay and related problems is the main job of a dental hygienist. As generations pass, not many people are fully aware of the downside of not properly taking care of their pearly whites. This topic was brought to my attention by noticing the lack of dental hygiene among my peers. This doesn’t necessarily just mean having only cavities, sore gums, but also bad breath.

No one likes communicating with another person with bad, stinky breath. Bad breath is also known as halitosis, which is caused by anaerobic bacteria. Anaerobic bacteria is found in our mouth from drinking coffee, eating spicy foods,smoking tobacco, medications, gum diseases and many more. “About eighty-five percent of all bad breath is caused by oral bacteria, and fifty percent of this is bacteria is on the tongue.” ( Aberdour, 44) The way you present yourself to

In order for that to happen I must have an associate’s degree, bachelor's,volunteering dental hours, and must have a dental license. Someday I would like to make a difference in someone’s else life, like one did for me. With hard work and dedication anyone can go far.

In conclusion, its recommended that patients brush two-three times a day two minutes long to insure that most of the bacteria is removed from the teeth,gums, and tongue also. Flossing after every meal should also be done regularly because of left foods that get stuck between the teeth. There are many kinds of toothpaste, but not all contain fluorine. Its important that you chose on that does have fluorine because it rebuild tooth enamel and strengthen the tooth too.
