The Importance Of Deforestation In Global Warming

Deforestation plays a vital role in global warming. Global warming is caused by an increase in the greenhouse gas resulting in rise of earth’s surface temperature. Greenhouse gas absorbs radiation from the sun, re emits it through internal reflections across the earth’s surface and prevents it to reflect back to the atmosphere .These greenhouse gases include CO2, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) etc. .The major reasons for the increase in greenhouse gases are deforestation, soil erosion, emissions from vehicles, burning biomass, bio fuel and release of CFC’s by refrigerators and airplanes, etc. The forest covering area across the globe has been decreasing every year .The world currently has annual forest loss …show more content…

Deforestation results in decreased evapotranspirated vapor levels in the atmosphere, which in turn decreases the occurrence of rainfall as there is little evaporation there will be low condensation and precipitation as well. As a result droughts and famines occur, causing soil erosion, which aids in global warming. At the deforested areas, the excess surface storm water or water overflowed will wash out the uppermost layer of the soil resulting in eroded soil. Toni Johnson (2009) states that “30 % of greenhouse gases are emitted every year because of deforestation” (Deforestation and Greenhouse - Gas Emissions, …show more content…

The ozone layer acts as a shield between sun and earth’s surface by preventing the reach of U.V. radiation to the earth’s surface by absorbing it. The ozone layer is depleted when CFCs are released into the atmosphere. These CFCs when released into the atmosphere undergo various reactions and deplete the ozone layer by breaking down its molecules; by doing so, CFCs reduces the U.V. radiation absorbing capacity of the ozone layer. As a result U.V. radiation falls directly into the earth’s surface, thus increasing the surface
