Database Memorandum
I wanted to review the database tools we have at our disposal and explain what each is used for, when each is appropriate, and some improvements that we are pursuing to makes these tools easier to use and more powerful. For the sales organization there are three database options available to us; Hyperion®, Access®, and our most widely used tool, BusinessObjects by SAP.
Hyperion:
This database is least understood by the sales team because Hyperion® is only used to gather financial data (Pinnacle Titan Technology Partners [Titan], n.d., p. 1). As a sales team we only use it once a year for creating our annual sales and operating budgets. The system is not easy for us to use, because of its layout and duplication of data lines. However the database is designed to gather and generate reporting for corporate finance forecasting, tracking, and accurate reporting. This system generates everything from trial balances and audit reports, up through required reporting for Sarbanes-Oxley financial statements (Titan, n.d., p. 2). Therefore, while harder for us to use once a year, it meets many more financial requirements throughout the year.
In an attempt to make this system more user friendly for all of us, there are some changes that the management group have recommend be instituted. The duplicate line entry points are the most frustrating and problematic in the budgeting process. We have requested that the sales and margin values be separated by product grouping, and our program name so we can validate accurate forecasting and data entry. The database applications discussed bring value to our organization. We want you to be comfortable using each and knowing which you should use for a given application. I started my research by logging into the Ebsco database. Young, teacher, and stress were the keywords I first used. These keywords were included in 16 results. I found one article within these 16 results, so I expanded my search by excluding the word young. After I expanded my search there were 2,806 results. I read through some of them and decided if I felt they should be included in my paper. I found one article that had statics that I thought could greatly benefit my paper. After I finished locating sources on Ebsco, I started my search on the ProQuest database. I began by searching for stress in young teachers. This search brought up 73,016 results. XBRL, the eXtensible Business Reporting Language, is an open standards-based reporting system built to accommodate the electronic preparation and exchange of business reports around the world. XBRL started back in 1999 with 12 organizations as the founding members. There are now in excess of 450 organizations worldwide in over 30 countries involved in its development. It provides major benefits in the preparation, analysis and communication of business information. It offers cost savings, greater efficiency and improved accuracy and reliability to all those involved in supplying or using financial data. The idea behind XBRL, eXtensible Business Reporting Language, is simple. Instead of treating financial information as a block of text - as in a standard internet page or a printed document - it provides an identifying tag for each individual item of data. This is computer readable. For example, company net profit has its own unique tag. The introduction of XBRL tags enables automated processing of business information by computer software, cutting out laborious and costly processes of manual re-entry and comparison. Computers can treat XBRL data "intelligently" as they can recognize the information in a XBRL document, select it, analyze it, store it, exchange it with other computers and present it automatically in a variety of ways for users. XBRL greatly increases the speed of handling of financial data, reduces the chance of error and permits automatic checking of information.
