Cell phones have become more advanced as the times have gone forward. Almost everyone owns a cell phone of some manner, majority of those being smart phones. Phones can be both distractions and helpful tools to the world around one. Colleges are usually against cell phone usage inside of classrooms, it differs from professor to professor. In Deborah Tindell’s article The Use and Abuse of Cell Phones and Text Messaging in the Classroom: A Survey of College Students, Tindell surveyed 269 college students about Cell phone usage in college. 60.6% of the students said they see other students using their phones daily before class. 21.3% of students have admitted to using cell phones prior to class. The proof is there, students have and use cell phones everyday, so why not make them useful in class and use them for the subject. Cell phones definitely have more pros than cons when it comes to use in the classroom. Cell phones can be used for web browsing, doing class work online, and using useful apps. Cell phones should be allowed in the classroom because they are beneficial to students education with the quick access it gives. Students can enhance their education with web browsing because it allows them to search material they don’t know. Advanced smartphones have tons of helpful resources to help a student out when they are in a bind. Web browsing can help the student when there may be a word that the student may not know, he may want to get extra information on the subject on hand, or he may just want a little extra help. Web browsing is the easiest and simplest way a student can get needed learning material that he does not know.
