Crisis and Aversion - The Story of Kennedy

Regarding presidents that have come to pass in the United States, one stands out as the finest. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, known simply as JFK to the public, partook in numerous accomplishments making him one of the best leaders in the history of America. As the only president to win a Pulitzer Prize, Kennedy stands unchallenged with the amount of achievements in his single term. He established the Peace Corps, launched the first man to the moon and resolved the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kennedy’s actions during the crisis stood out particularly with the American people. All US citizens were unquestionably shaken, for at any moment, their life could be exterminated. “And so the chairman of the USSR and the president of the USA stumbled into the scariest episode of the atomic age" (Frankel 8). Over the course of thirteen days, Kennedy inspired faith and patriotism among his citizens as the threat of missiles loomed to the south. Through smart thinking and perseverance, JFK not only averted an attack on America but put a stop to a possible nuclear war.
Ten years before the crisis, Fulgencio Batista ruled Cuba. The country's economy became worse while Batista controlled it and the poor population submerged deep into hardship because of his decisions. This resulted in Fidel Castro leading a rebel group to overthrow the leader. Through conflict and turmoil, the rebels were victorious. Many Cubans exiled to Florida where they exaggerated and lied to America of Castro's doings. America, upon this hearing, placed an embargo on Cuba and prohibited them from exporting sugar to the US (Trueman). The Cubans relied upon sugar export to gather most of their income.
