"No bullet can stop us now, we neither beg nor we won't bow;
Neither can be bought nor sold.
We all defend the right; Jah - Jah children must unite:
Your life is worth much more than gold.
We're jammin' (jammin', jammin', jammin')
And we're jammin' in the name of the Lord"
Lyrics from "Jammin", a song performed by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Change is a major part of every teenager’s life. Teenagers experience physical, mental, and social changes. The most major change in my life was when I developed my own taste in music. I went from contemporary Christian to listening to almost anything and everything. Now I listen to Christian metal, pop and rock. Contemporary Christian music now that I have discovered Christian metal and all the other genres of music sounds plain and boring I cannot stand to listen to it.
Some Christian contemporary artists are Tobymac, Casting crowns, Tenth Avenue North, and Amy Grant. Some of the Christian metal bands are As I Lay dying, War of Ages, Bless the Fall, Becoming the Archetype, Demon Hunter, and Zao. These artists are all played on Christian radio stations around our country. The most common radio stations around the Roanoke area are Sprit FM and Sunny FM. There are currently no stations around the Roanoke area that play metal.
Tobymac is a rap artist his band got together around 2000 and was born in Fairfax Virginia according to Wikipedia. (Wikipedia) He has four CD’s in his solo career. Before his solo career he was in a trio known as “DC Talk” they disbanded in 1989. At this time in our nation's history, two-hundred thirty years and counting, there is a great debate raging on. In many peoples' eyes our country has made a turn for the worse. We have thrown our Forefather's to the wayside, and there belief in strong Christian influence along with it. To them all could be solved if we merely "re-instituted" the Christian morals and teachings that this country was founded on. On the other hand, there are many who are calling for the complete and utter extraction of all Christian and other religious beliefs from public life and governmental law. To these individuals nothing good and beneficial can ever come from religion. Both of these belief structures are sadly flawed to their very core. But where is the middle ground and why haven't we been able to find it. This is precisely where Jon Meacham's American Gospel shines like no other. If nothing else Meacham's book is an answer to the times. American Gospel covers religion, philosophy, and ideology that shaped American law and thought from the birth of our rich and diverse nation to the time of the Reagan presidency.
Today’s mainstream country is similar to country rock during the 1970’s through the 1990’s. Today mainstream country artist like Carrie Underwood and Florida Georgia Line have similar classic country sound but also rock feel to their music. Country rock in the 1950’s appealed more to white males than any other race due to the lack of black country rock musicians, with the only exception being Ray Charles, who produced a successful country rock album in the 1960’s. Many rock artists in the late 1960’s and 1970’s became aware of country rock because of Gram Parsons who incorporated emotional lyrics that told a story with a guitar added to his music. Gram Parsons influences many country rock bands and artist like the Eagles, Neil Young, and Poco who were some of the popular rock country artists of the early
One of the most influential movements on the Western world, the European Reformation was primarily a movement that started in Germany. The Reformation was a time of great change and challenge of the Catholic Church by some of its members. The impact of the Reformation has certainly been long term as much of what took place has had a direct correlation to aspects of Western civilization today. For example, of the long term impacts that is not considered much is the impact that the Reformation had on music. Sacred music and music in general in the church was and still to this day is very important. Also secular music was significant to everyday living. As soon as the Reformation was up and running it initiated a substantial change in music and in the lives of European people. Because of theological issues, the European Reformation shaped how different denominations used music in churches and conversely secular music.
What do you think about when you think of singing? Do you think about the latest rock or pop craze? Or do you think about some opera singer on stage? For me, when I think about singing, I think about All City Choir.
African American religious music is the foundation of all contemporary forms of so called “black music.” African American religious music has been a fundamental part of the black experience in this country. This common staple of the African American experience can be traced back to the cruel system of slavery. It then evolved into what we refer to today as gospel music. The goal of this paper is to answer three main questions. What are the origins of African American religious music? How did this musical expression develop into a secular form of music? What is the future of African American religious music? These questions will be answered through factual research of African American traditions, artists, and various other sources.
By 1945, nearly everyone in the African American community had heard gospel music (2). At
Gospel music began in the cotton fields of the old south. It originates from slaves singing songs of freedom about Jesus and has integrated into today’s music. Gospel music is a standard version of sanctified music that has encouraged Christian beliefs and stimulated the practice of Christian ethical principles, both inside the context of worship services and as music entertainment. Gospel music began with Thomas A. Dorsey, the Father of Gospel Music. Gospel, mean "good news," it was given the name because of the books of the Old Testament with the gospels.1
Hip Hop and Rock music are today’s people choice of music. People will find that teens and adults from the age of 20 to 34 listen to these two types of music. Not too often will you see or hear a teen listening to Blues, Opera, Reggae, or Oldies. Reason being is that they were raised up in toady’s society where really all they will here is either Hip Hop or Rock. There is a lot of argument that these two different types of music are the same old sing about money, drugs, and sex. But actually they are tot...
Japan is a country that has a great impact on the world from many perspectives. Not only because of their strong economy and great technology, their culture also gives people extraordinary impressions. Japanese music as an indispensable part of Japanese culture, it is also being popular in different continents. However, “Japanese Music” is a broad topic and there are far more things we need to study and observe to completely understand beside to listen the music itself. Although Japanese music is a big topic, it can specify to different Japanese Music style or genre. In my opinion, Japanese music between religion worship and entertainment are highly linked together. Comparing the Japanese court music “Gagaku” and the Japanese folk music of religion “Shinto” Can show many similarities between these two as well as some differences.

Change can have many meanings. It is going from “same” to “different”. Change can be defined as an event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to another and as a process of transition. The forces of change affect attitudes, beliefs and behavior. Not a single moment goes by when everything in our lives will remain the same. When you become adjusted to your surroundings, something changes again. Changes can affect both individuals and groups. Throughout our lives we go through many changes, especially in adolescence.
Also, music might be looked at as an outlet for today’s angry and energized teen. Without this outlet of stress and complete angst, maybe the suicide rate would increase, or the school shootings number would go up? Teens will continue to listen to such music that their parents loathe, nothing will change that; this may be looked at as a good thing from my point of view.
