What is Operating Systems? An operating system (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. (wikipedia). That is what you would find on Wikipedia in my words it is what runs your computer really. Every computer has one at the bank they have one, big businesses have them so do burger king. There are many types of operating systems out there. Such as real-time operating system, multi-user, multi-tasking and single-tasking. There is many more than just those 4. They make them for families, schools, businesses, gamers ex. To give people an idea what some of these do I summed up some of the bigger one to explain what they do. This one is more for families. It’s a Real-time operating system. A very important part of an RTOS is managing the resources of the computer so that a particular operation executes in precisely the same amount of time, every time it occurs. In a complex machine, having a part move more quickly just because system resources are available may be just as catastrophic as having it not move at all because the system is busy (howstufworks). The next big one for families is (Single-user), (single task) operating system. What that one dose is this operating system is designed to manage the computer so that one user can effectively do one thing at a time (howstufworks). It keeps your computer organized and makes it easy to do simple stuff like run word or power point programs. The one most people use those is multi-tasking operating system. They are normally found one laptops or desktops. This is was the new windows 8 have also it allows people to have more than one thing open at one time. Its can split your window into two so you could hav... ... middle of paper ... ...adio. Since this functionality is highly timing-dependent, a real-time operating system is required (http://www.osnews.com). The second one helps run many of the little things you have like aps on phones or I pads or kindles. They help load new updates for them. Like they said in (http://www.osnews.com) it is very slow so the main operating system is still need to run the device. ...ctioned, communicated, and performed their daily activities. In doing this however, they must stay on top of other competitors by creating new innovative ways to attract the consumers. Some had a long history while others had a short one. Some were provided great feature while others didn’t do so well in this area. One thing is for certain, each operating system provided a use for many consumers that helped not only in the personal lives of many but also within the business world. As we see the history shows that once upon a time what began as a way to for businesses to operate has now turned into a way that people communicate. Technology continues to grow and advance and with that waiting to see what the future holds is a mystery but I’m certain that it will be world of amazement especially seeing where operating systems have come from to where they are currently.
Operating systems are complex structures of information, or data, that is stored in programs, files, folders, and much more. Operating systems consist of software, which are bunches of programs. An operating system is the software that stores data and information that a user inputs. The processing of input occurs through the user entering information through the keyboard, also called “keying in information.” This precise definition provides background information to the fact that operating systems are composed of a central idea. Operating systems are the key element that allows someone to use a computer. This idea sparked the creation of the first operating system in the 1960’s by the General Motors Research Laboratories.
As the internet is becoming faster and faster, an operating system (OS) is needed to manage the data in computers. An Operating system can be considered to be a set of programed codes that are created to control hardware such as computers. In 1985 Windows was established as an operating system and a year earlier Mac OS was established, and they have dominated the market of the computer programs since that time. Although, many companies have provided other operating systems, most users still prefer Mac as the most secured system and windows as it provides more multiple functions. This essay will demonstrate the differences between windows
This document describes the final project for the course COEN 283 – Operating System. The project is team oriented, main goal is to select a topic related the Operating System concepts that should be either theoretical, in which new algorithm is analysis and simulate, in which subsystem/driver of an OS is prototyped. Provide the simulation/implementation code and explain the detail design in this report. This project will provide opportunity for students to perform research on topic of interest of operating system.
Linux is a Unix clone written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims towards POSIX compliance. It has all the features expected in a modern fully-fledged Unix, including true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory management and TCP/IP networking.
It all began in 1991, during the time of monumental computing development. DOS had been bought from a Seattle hacker by Bill Gates, for a sum of $50,000 – a small price for an operating system that had managed sneak its way across the globe due to a clever marketing strategy. Apple’s OS and UNIX were both available, though the cost of running either was far greater than that of running DOS. Enter MINIX, an operating system developed from the ground up by Andrew S. Tanenbaum, a college professor. MINIX was part of a lesson plan used to teach students the inner-workings of an operating system. Tanenbaum had written a book on MINIX called “Operating System” and anyone who had picked up a copy would find the 12,000 lines of code that comprised MINIX itself. This was a big issue; due to the fact that all know (well published) operating systems to that point had been well guarded by software developers, thus making it difficult for people to truly expand on operating system mechanics.
MAC is short form from the word of Macintosh and refer to any computer produced by the Apple Inc. It is commercial. MAC OS is a series of graphical user interface-based operating system developed by Apple Inc. for their Macintosh line of computer system. It is also proprietary software with an open source components. For its kernel type is hybrid (XNU). The base of Mac OS is UNIX so that it is more powerful, and powerful here means that it is safe and secure from viruses and some say that once every decade it is been effected. Recently Mac had just released its latest version that is OS X 10.9 maverick. BIOS does not need for Mac to install it and it has no registry to foul up.
Operating system design goals and requirements are divided into two groups. What are these two groups?
There are several mobile operating systems like: ios, android, blackberry, symbian os, bada os, windows os, etc...In this audit we are presenting windows operating system and android operating system in brief. Features and applications of these phones have been looked closely in the audit.
An Operating system is system software that controls the system’s hardware that interacts with users and the application software. As we all may know, Windows Microsoft has always been a commercial high-level sale in the retail industry and an in domain operating system used today. But there are more operating systems than just Windows Microsoft than the general population may assume. Linux is another well-known operating systems, which is free and open-source software. Linux is also used in companies we would have never thought of like Google, NASA, USPS, Amazon and many more companies. Linux and Microsoft operating systems have been in competition to see which one is the best operating system in the market. There are so many resemblances
The invention of computers has made a huge change in human civilization and society, by changing the way people think. Computers replaced jobs and tedious repetitive thoughts that were done by human originally. People became more and more reliant on computers, and thus, computers became essential to our lives. Computers can manufacture products quickly, and eliminate possible human errors. As technology progresses, new ideas have been brought into computer to make them perform more efficiently. Also, scientists and engineers tend to make things “smaller”, so we can enjoy the benefits from electronic devices anywhere and anytime. Therefore, size and efficiency are two main points for consumers. Desktop computer and laptop computer are representatives for each of these concepts. Although desktops and laptops come from the same origin, they are different in many ways.
System units are commonly mistaken as the Central Processing unit (CPU). System units sometimes called “computer chassis”, “base units” or “Tower cases” however are simply the housing for the integral parts of a computer. System units usual house all components of a computer excluding the monitor, Keyboard and mouse. System Units are a very simple component of the computer because they do none of the actual computing. They are usually just a square or rectangular prism made of some type of plastic or metal that hold all of the vital parts of a computer in a secure manner. Other than that there is not much to be said about the system unit.
The significance of the role of the Operation System (OS) in the overall Information Technology employment sector cannot be undervalued. Indeed, it is hard to talk about technical skill-sets or the practical application of such skill-sets without at least some underlying understanding of their context within a computer operating system environment. From hardware specifications and requirements, user technical support, system administration and security, to software development and system implementation, operating systems are an integral part of the information technology and computing world in all its aspects, and it is difficult to form a concrete demarcation between specialized careers in this industry and the concept of the computer operating system.
The central unit is the basic part of the computer and includes all the main computer parts. It is the heart of the computer system. It is responsible for executing, or running the software. The software programs are translated into a series of codes made up of 1s to 0s that the CPU can understand. Every code means a certain operation should take place.
computer architecture Computer architecture covers the design of system software, such as the operating system (the program that controls the computer), as well as referring to the combination of hardware and basic software that links the machines on a computer network. Computer architecture refers to an entire structure and to the details needed to make it functional. Thus, computer architecture covers computer systems, microprocessors, circuits, and system programs. Typically the term does not refer to application programs, such as spreadsheets or word processing, which are required to perform a task but not to make the system run.
