Computer Information Paper
Computers have changed so much over the past several years it is hard to know what the best choice for personal or business use. Making an educated decision based on input and output options along with memory and speed is the place to begin the process of choosing a system. The best way to make the decision is to know and understand the components of the computer and what it will be used for.
Accuracy of Data Input
Inputting Data into a computer is a critical piece in the processing of information. If the data isn’t put in properly it can’t have accurate results. Finding the correct input device for computer depends on what or how the information will be used. Here are common applications and input devices recommended.
Printed Questionnaires- Keyboard or Mouse these are the most common input devices and the easiest to use.
Telephone Survey- Voice-Recognition Devices require the use microphones and specific software.
Bank Checks-Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) devices rely on the data printed in a special magnetic ink.
Retail Tags- Bar code scanners and point of sale devices can quickly and accurately read Universal Product Codes attached to items.
Long Documents- If typing a new document a keyboard could be used, if a current document needs to be than a scanning device called Optical Data Readers can be used. This device will create a read only file.
Choosing the most effective method of input will make accuracy of the output easier to choose and understand and have the desired quality results.

RAM is the internal short term memory for a computer. If a computer loses the power source any documents in the RAM will be lost.
Flash or Jump Drive- are becoming more common because of size, portability, and less likely to fail than a hard disk. Accessing information from these devices is extremely fast and acts like an extension of the hard disk.
Conclusion
Choosing a computer for personal or business use can be overwhelming. The first decision to be made is how this computer will be used. How the data will be input, processed, and used is the key to finding a perfect fit system. Knowing how to combine speed, storage, input and output devices with ultimately determine what machine an individual or business should choose.

The solid state drive is a very unique piece of technology that was created in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. It is a storage device that incorporates solid-state memory and emulates a hard disk drive to store data. Solid state drives use interfaces such as USB and PCI express. It is very light, quiet and uses very little power to function, thus making it a very important piece in a modern day computer. As time goes by, there are more and more solid state drives that are found in laptops and even mobile devices as they are relativity smaller than hard disk drives and are much faster. Also if you accidently drop your laptop or mobile device from a decent height (five feet) while it’s processing, then you will greater chances of retrieving your data than a hard disk drive. But there are indeed some downsides to the solid state drive, not many but one that makes it hard to come by, the cost. The cost of these small, fast, crazy pieces cost roughly 3$/gigabyte to 0.15$/gigabyte depending on the model, brand, speed and size of course. Compared to other storage devices, these are the highest possible prices that you can ask for, with reason of course, these things are far too fast
Barcodes are used everywhere around us. They are used to track products through shipment, track products at a store and speed up and enhance the checkout process, as well as allowing faster access to information. Barcodes began to be used heavily in the 1970’s. This began a great movement in the consumer industry, speeding up the checkout process and allowing easier inventory tracking. However, just like all technologies, barcodes have been enhanced many times over and are being replaced by better, more efficient systems (Bonsor).
The computer evolution has been an amazing one. There have been astonishing achievements in the computer industry, which dates back almost 2000 years. The earliest existence of the computer dates back to the first century, but the electronic computer has only been around for over a half-century. Throughout the last 40 years computers have changed drastically. They have greatly impacted the American lifestyle. A computer can be found in nearly every business and one out of every two households (Hall, 156). Our Society relies critically on computers for almost all of their daily operations and processes. Only once in a lifetime will a new invention like the computer come about.
Computer technology has had a significant impact on retail stores. All but the smallest shops have replaced the old-fashioned cash register with a terminal linked to a computer system. The terminal may require that the clerk type in the code for the item; but more and more frequently the checkout counter include a bar-code scanner, a device that directly reads into the computer the UPC printed on each package.
The input and output sections allow the computer to receive and send data, respectively. Different hardware architectures are required because of the specialized needs of systems and users. One user may need a system to display graphics extremely fast, while another system may have to be optimized for searching a database or conserving battery power in a laptop computer. In addition to the hardware design, the architects must consider what software programs will operate the system.
The two main ways printers work is either impact or nonimpact. Impact printers have a device that touches the paper and then creates an image while nonimpact does not touch the paper. The type we use most often in our homes is the nonimpact printers; these include the ink-jet and laser printers. The ink-jet printer drops ink from a nozzle onto the paper. The laser printer is a bit more complicated because it uses toner, static electricity, and heat to get the ink where you want it on the paper. This is nice though because it decreases the drying time that may cause ink to smear, especially when you are printing pictures. (Tyson)
The computer has progressed in many ways, but the most important improvement is the speed and operating capabilities. It was only around 6 years ago when a 386 DX2 processor was the fastest and most powerful CPU in the market. This processor could do a plethora of small tasks and still not be working to hard. Around 2-3 years ago, the Pentium came out, paving the way for new and faster computers. Intel was the most proficient in this area and came out with a range of processors from 66 MHz-166 Mhz. These processors are also now starting to become obsolete. Todays computers come equipped with 400-600 Mhz processors that can multi-task at an alarming rate.
