I have had the opportunity to participate in the community health service project at Temple University Hospital from past several weeks. I have found through this experience that service which is an act of helping or assisting others have changed my perception from helping others to being able to use my skills and knowledge I have in different ways to have better health outcomes. According to Mahatma Gandhi, in order to be the best person you can be, you should focus on finding ways to serve others. In serving others, you find out more about yourself and help others in the process. Therefore, I knew it would be a different experience where you are able to apply your knowledge in real world. This is what I look forward to do in near future. Doing service projects is a great way to get involved with the local community and through this project our mission was to get familiarize ourselves with the goals and objectives of healthy people 2020 like access to heath care ,health literacy, health promotion and disease prevention. Temple University Hospital runs a program called Temple advantage program, which enrolls patients based on their chronic conditions and frequency of admissions to the hospital emergency department within 6 months. This program provides a better access to health services that patient require example to solve any problem with coverage of medical insurance for the prescription medications. In doing so, they are trying to overcome barriers like health insurance, lack of availability, high cost, lack of insurance coverage, limited language access, which are objectives of healthy people 2020 for better access to health care. Further, each patient is assisted with a co... ... middle of paper ... ... percent of patients on medications for hypertension, who do not have their blood pressure under control because they lack regular follow up. Being a student and having little bit of work experience at the retail pharmacies I had seen many people come to local pharmacies for their prescription pick up and check their blood pressure. During my tenure, I saw people coming up to pharmacist and asking what does the number mean. The interventions that pharmacist made with simple conversation about their blood pressure reading have gone further to know more about their medication use and follow up visits with primary care physician. Therefore, these little interventions with patients will have a huge impact on one’s health and role of pharmacist in it is amazing. This is a perfect opportunity to involve patients in their own care. I would like to work in these settings.
I equate service with helpfulness—assisting others. I help both my school community by answering questions and giving feedback and my community as a whole through my volunteer activities, the most enjoyable of which has been Habitat for Humanity.
Another service that I have done has been to volunteer at the West Campus Hospital gift shop. It was a great experience for me; if I had the time I would make the effort to volunteer again. For people that is good at socializing with others and love organizing I would recommend volunteering at the gift shop.

Healthy People are a nationwide program set by the United States Department of Health and Human Services with the objectives to promote health and prevent disease. The Healthy People program was first initiated in 1979, followed by Healthy People 1990, 2000 and 2010 with the same goals and objectives to promote health and prevent diseases. Due to the accomplishments that has been achieved in the previous years under this program, the Healthy People 2020 expanded or rather broadened their goals and objectives beyond disease prevention, health promotion and reducing health disparities, but to also eliminate healthcare disparities that has plagued this nation by the year 2020. The governing body, the United States Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for coordinating this program; track the progress of these objectives so as to improve the health of the population. Among the various goals set by this body, only three will be discussed in this paper to gain more insight as to what it entails. These include health equity to improve the health of all groups; social and physical environments that promote good health; and to promote quality of life, healthy development and healthy behavior across life stages.
Treatment for the client presenting to the APN diagnosed with hypertension, the first efforts should be focused on education. The patient should be informed of what current JNC 8 guidelines for the diagnosis of hypertension are. This will help the patient identify that he or she in fact has a problem and his blood pressure is abnormal. Further education should also include anticipated progression of the disease and complications from prolonged hypertension to help the patient understand the effects hypertension have on the body and risk of development of end-organ damage. Since hypertension is a silent disease, often void of symptoms, the patient must understand fully the implications of the disease and necessity to control the blood pressure.

My community service work at County Hospital is to care for the rudimentary needs of each patient. My goals are to provide inspiration during the healing process, teach kindness and compassion, and discover my own abilities for empathy. "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I'll try again to tomorrow (Mary Anne Radmacher)." My hope as a volunteer is to help each patient find that voice, find that courage to go forward.
There were quite many relations made between my service learning experiences and themes addressed in the course. Some of the connections were about human self-respect, unity, and fairness. The social ties hold people together and can support the people who do not have the power to help each other. It was interesting for me to employ my skills and knowledge I learned in the classroom to serve those who need help.
Community service is a voluntary, unpaid act of kindness that an individual perform to benefit and help others who are in need. It is important for individuals to do community services. It is not only about helping the community but, also making a difference in someone’s life. It can help a person grow and build connections mentally, physically, and emotionally. At the beginning of this volunteer experience, I walked in hopeful that I would gain some knowledge about the different careers that the medical field possesses, but I got so much more than that. I learned that community service is about making an impact in the lives of other members who share my community.
The thought of community service was boring to me before I began my volunteer work. I was fearful starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. I used to do community service with a group of friends in high school, I was afraid here because it was my first time working alone. I was scared of not being able to make any friends because socializing with other people is my weakness, although I can understand and speak a little Bahasa Indonesia. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it done. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience. On the 7th of September 2017 (Thursday), I worked at the Central Lab
These experiences have afforded me opportunities to demonstrate my gifts and talents that had previously gone undiscovered. Through different community service opportunities, I either learned something new about myself or I was reassured something. These qualities include that I am creative, reliable, open-minded, passionate, and an effective team player. Community service changed my life by developing my character through enhancing my transferable skills, which allowed me to see the world differently. Everyone, from all walks of life, needs to in some way, shape, or form give back to the community because it will not only benefit the less fortunate but it will benefit the volunteers as well. Additionally, I learned about the wide variety of resources available to help the community. There are so many resources out there that people are ignorant to like certain shelters and food banks. Ultimately, community service taught me the greatest gift I could ever receive, how to be
