Acting is being honest. Acting is being a different version of yourself. Acting is hate, love, joy and sadness. Acting is leaving a piece of your soul on the stage of in front of the camera. Although acting is many things above all, it is a spiritual experience. This spiritual experience I am referring to is an out of body experience that results in a person feeling as though they are floating. This floating feels as though you are watching everything from a tall vantage point. It also causes everything around you to feel as though it is a blur; a dream. When you enter this state, it is as though you have fallen asleep. Your body and mind become a different animal entirely and the process takes full effect of your thoughts and actions. Afterwards, …show more content…
In the zone, so to speak. I first experienced this feeling when I auditioned for the musical Footloose. In a specific part of the audition we were required to improvise an angry rant. When it was my chance, I got so angry I teared up and felt as though I was floating. This was the first instance where I had actually felt genuine emotions in my acting. Since that instance, I have learned to pull emotions and experiences in my real life to bring depth and realism to my performances. It is not always accomplished because the small moments in acting are the most difficult to bring to life and add realism …show more content…
Although I can stumble upon this experience, I have learned how to facilitate it to where I can reach this place more easily. I facilitate it by closing my eyes tightly and holding my breath, relaxing and letting my body do whatever feels natural, or lying down before an intensely emotional scene. Lying down aids in the process as it clears my head to where my body and mind is open to these new emotions and thoughts. There are two different stages to this experience: a lesser stage and a more intense stage. The lesser stage is an out of body experience but there is no intense emotion felt; therefore, it is simply being the character. This stage occurs most often when you are exchanging dialogue back and forth with another actor or reciting a well-constructed monologue. The more intense feeling creates the out of body experience with the intense, real emotions felt behind it. This stage occurs in the hype of the scene when you are intended to be angry or experiencing an intense

“As actors we must rejoice in the possession of our physical faculties. We must experience joy in the use of our hands, arms, body etc. Without this appreciation and realization of the body and its many possibilities, we cannot perform as artists”, A statement by the actor, director and teacher of the theatre, Michael Chekhov. What does it mean to experience joy within our hands, arms and body? After all, joy is an emotion triggered from the mind. Chekhov’s somewhat enigmatic statement can seem confusing to actors or persons without the knowledge of his teachings. What does it mean to rejoice in the possession of our physical faculties?
Religion is fraught with stories and myths of otherworldly journeys. There are a variety of reasons; however, the two main ones one may notice are humans’ innate pattern recognition, and our necessity to define and understand the world in which we live. These otherworldly excursions, out-of-body-experiences OBEs, near-death-experiences NDEs, and altered-states-of-consciousness ASCs are side effects of trauma rather than real experiences. In this paper ASC will be the basic reference unless otherwise noted. Therefore, it is prudent to explore those examples of forced ASCs, the causes, and the impacts on the society. An ASC experience within a religion may serve an important purpose in the belief system, yet it is a personal experience of the mind and not a legitimate experience in the real world.
Emotion is power. Being emotional can sometimes be paralyzing. We have seen how different characters make decisions, what they are based on, and if they sometimes falter off that path.
It had been reported that, “Numerous people have told of hearing their doctors or other spectators in effect pronounce them dead” (Moody Jr, MD, 2015, p. 17). This is an out of body experience. Each reported feelings of peace and quiet, which transitioned into a bad buzzing noise. After proceeding through a tunnel, they have an “encounter with a very bright light” (Moody Jr, MD, 2015, p. 51). Questions resound around a reflection of their life, what they had learned during it, and if it was worth it. Invariably, each of the subjects’ encounter a border at which they are told they need to go back. “Considering the skepticism and lack of understanding that greet the attempt of a person to discuss his near-death experience, it is not surprising that almost everyone in this situation comes to feel that he is unique, that no one else has ever undergone what he has” (Moody Jr, MD, 2015, p. 83). Naturally, the outcome of this experience has an effect on the lives of those experiencing it.
A discrepancy between one’s internal and external state means that there is an imbalance of one’s emotional equilibrium. With or without dissonance, the individual is alienating themselves from the rest of the group because they are disconnected from their emotions. My internal state at the celebratory dinner did not match the positive facade I put up, because prior to the event, my car was towed and I anticipated an uncomfortable gathering with both of my parents under one roof. I used deep acting by telling myself that I was there for my brother’s engagement and that I should be happy for him just as my family was. I changed a personal part of myself to fit the context of the

Imagine having a near death experience and believing you had seen things never before seen, such as a key to the past and future of mankind. You would have a desire to spread your knowledge to save as many people as you could. This may sound like a wonderful thing to have happen to you but when your mind is being pers...

“… There is a feeling of strange intoxication and shifting consciousness with minor perceptual changes. There may also be strong physical effects, including respiratory pressure, muscle tension (especially face and neck muscles), and queasiness or possible nausea… After this the state of altered consciousness begins to manifest itself…..among the possible occurences are feelings of inner tranquility, oneness with life, heightened awareness, and rapid thought flow…these effects will deepen and become more visual. Colors may become more intense. Halos and auras may appear about things. Objects

Claude Messier a 24 year old student in Canadian, a professor at the school of psychology at the University of Ottawa, said after he finished a class on “Out of body experiences” one of his students admitted she could do that at will. “She came after the class and literally said ‘ I thought everybody could do that. She thought i...
Dr. Raymond Moody is recognized as the father of NDE research. Raymond Moody, the psychiatrist who coined the term near-death experience in 1975, defined them as “profound spiritual events that happen, uninvited, to some individuals at the point of death”. NDEs are reported by individuals who had been pronounced clinically dead but then were resuscitated; by individuals who actually died but were able to describe t...
Al pacino said, "The actor becomes an emotional athlete. The process is painful - my personal life suffers". In other words, "Acting is simply more than walking out on the stage" as Dr. Stevenson would put it. It is more than just reading the lines. To be a true actor, I believe it takes inner capabilities such as learning life. In all the books I have read, all the chapters we have reviewed in class, and in all honesty…Al Pacino is an actor I cannot forget.
Have you ever wondered why people have certain reactions? I chose chapter eight on emotions for my reflection paper because emotions are something that everyone has and feels, yet cannot always explain or react to in the way you would expect. Personally, I have never been great at responding to emotions in a way that I would not regret in the future. Thus, naturally being drawn to this chapter as a way to expand my knowledge on how to react to things more positively. I also wanted to learn why I feel a certain way after events that would not affect most people and be reassured about my feelings. Opposite to that, it is nice to see that, while not always productive, others have the same reaction habits. Overall, emotions are a complicated
