The Children’s Ministries department of the Southern Asia Pacific Division held another historic Division-wide Children’s Ministries Convention in Bangkok, Thailand in August 21-25, 2013. This was attended by more than 200 participants throughout the Southern Asia Pacific Division under the able leadership of Dr Miriam L. Andres. We praise God that inspite of the inclement weather and storm, Manila then was flooded, domestic and international flights were cancelled and delayed, many of the delegates slept on the floor of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport waiting the flights to be resumed. Mixed emotions gripped our hearts, because the rains kept pouring not sure when can the flights be resumed from Manila to Bangkok. I guess series of prayers were uttered by the stranded delegates and those who are in the situation and surely we saw God’s hand taking care of us. Delegates who were delayed from their domestic flights came in, just in time for the international flights to push through, so we were all together in our designated flight to Bangkok on the right time. Praise God, He...
These conditions, caused by structural violence and weakened social systems, had severe consequences for all, but more so for children the children of Sierra Leone. Children make up the mass majority of the population of Sierra Leone. Because of the war, children had even less access to standardized education, they suffered immensely because of the unemploy¬ment of their parents, and thousands of children resorted to the struggle of surviving on the street (Zack-Williams, 2001). Children were preyed on by “thugs”. Soon children were unknowingly recruited as “child soldiers.” (It must be known that the term child soldier ...
Children and youths need certain things like shelter, food and water. If they don’t receive these necessities
“No cost nor labour did I spare” is a phrase every mother lives by. It shows that a mother loves her children so much that she will give anything up just so her children can reach success in life. The way this is written suggests that there was no thought involved in making this decision, the mother did not even think about it for a second, she knew immediately that she would not spare any cost or labor for her child. Anne Bradstreet is the author who wrote this, suggesting that the most important thing in her entire life is her kid’s success in life. In the poem “In Reference to Her Children,” author Anne Bradstreet demonstrates her love for her children by raising her children with pain and care, watching concernedly her children grow up, and wanting to be with them in the afterlife.
This past year the Women’s and Children’s hospital served 250,000 patients, many of which are children. For many children hospitals are a terrifying place, and in their hardships that they suffer while being patients at the hospital, which is where FBLA comes in. The Centralia FBLA decided to give joy to these children, who are undergoing
In the feature article "The Destruction of Childhood," the author, Langdon Winner, explains the brutal childhood of many children living in Third World Countries. The author points out several facts and surveys done many groups such as United Nations that show
An estimated 8 million to 10 million infants and children live in orphanages around the world, and aid agencies, churches and governments provide hundreds of millions of dollars in the hope that they can help vulnerable children find sanctuary in these institutions. This hope is badly misplaced. Orphanages are not safe places for children. We have witnessed thousands of children who live in disabling conditions, with heartbreaking consequences. We have seen neglected babies who rock back and forth, bite their hands and gouge their eyes as the result of mind-numbing boredom and neglect. We have seen infants and children, unable to feed them-selves, left to starve because there is no one to feed them. In Romania and Turkey we found teens who weighed less than 30 pounds (Ahern).
Throughout the existence of non-profit organizations, many have attempted to produce a greater variety of methods with which they can use to amplify immediate relief. Methods of relief with which many non-profit organizations excel in include: providing physical, emotional, or medical attention. I obtained the sense of such forms of relief a non-profit organization contributes through my experiences had with a local non-profit organization, CERT International (Christian Emergency Relief Teams). As an organization, it strives “To alleviate huma...
We all reached our families somehow or another, which was a gift from God. What I contributed to luck earlier was not luck at all but the grace and mercy of God. How else could all nine of us, some experienced tubers and some rookies, survive the worst flood in thirty-one years. What took us several hours to tub down on a normal tubing trip took less than an hour. The Davao River usually runs at ten kilometers per hour (about six miles per hour) but this time it was racing at a pace of twenty-two kilometers per hour (about fourteen mile per hour). The nightmarish song of the boulder sized rocks ringing beneath us as we tubed will forever be in my memory. God humbled and saved me from many things that day. Most importantly, he brought me closer to Him and to my friends. It is forever etched into my memory.
From that perspective, I will highlight the following programs that Save the Children does here in the United States alone. This organization have four main programs. First is health and nutrition, second is education, third is emergencies, and fourth is hunger and livelihoods. For health and nutrition, Save the Children is visiting schools, and other institutions giving lessons about balanced food and healthy food choices. In addition, education contributes 22% of their main programs. They have school-based literacy programs for disadvantaged students from kindergarten through 6th grade, specifically in reading, math, and science. They also provide tools and support schools in this advocacy. Another, in times of emergencies like natural disasters, Save the Children is visible. During the floods in the Gulf Coast region, they were there to give emergency assistance. The organization provide child-focused emergency plans, trainings, and emergency resources in preparation for coming disasters. Moreover, on the hunger and livelihoods aspect, the organization believes in not just giving fish, they also teach families how to fish. This in my opinion, is commendable. Not all organization have this advocacy. It promotes families to stand and support their families and not just depend on aids from private and public sectors.
The storm had finally passed, but the problems came flowing through. 13 million people were affected and more than 80 people died during those days. I felt an overwhelming rush to help those in need, even though my house had been hit really hard. I found a church to volunteer at and I immediately went to work. I noticed extended lines of people from all backgrounds who truly needed aid. However, the amount of volunteers was minuscule compared to the number of people who needed help. I then contacted my friends and family who were safe from the storm and asked them if they could come to assist these individuals who were in dire need. Within 24 hours, they all came and brought a great amount of people with them who also had supplies, as well. This beautiful sight is one that brought so much joy to everyone involved. We were able to quickly help the men, women, and children who then showed utter appreciation and gratefulness for what they were given. I was able to lead the distribution of clothing, interact with the victims, hear their stories, and give out a sufficient amount of supplies. Many with tears in their eyes and huge smiles on their faces, left the church with a newfound hope and
Before the summer of 2014, I had done local and state service projects but never been on a large-scale mission trip, and had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into- but it didn’t matter. All I knew was that I felt an indescribable pull to travel outside of both my comfort zone and my country’s borders to give whatever I could to suffering people who were usually neglected. There are many daunting aspects to the preparation that goes into going on missions, especially when your team is planning to inhabit a city such as Tijuana. This city has accrued a blaringly dangerous reputation because it is a hub for drugs and sex slavery, so an obstacle that came along with preparing for the trip was convincing the parents of our youth that their children would be even remotely safe. Although the Spectrum team lives in Tijuana and knows the ins and outs of serving its people on a daily basis, there is never a one hundred percent guarantee of safety. However, God did His thing and gave peace of mind to the parents of the youth going on the trip- even the parents who were once against the thought of their
Throughout the world, missions are taking place, changing lives forever and for the better. As people serve in various places of the world, they can learn a lot, not only about themselves but also about how one person can truly make a difference in another person’s life. There are many groups and organizations out there that travel together and share their stories with the world. All God’s Children is a group that travels to various third-world countries to help children in orphanages. They stay with the children in, generally, worn-down buildings or huts, with no indoor pluming or running water. Sharing how their experiences have impacted their lives, express the hardships of the children and suffering they go through, and sharing the Word of the gospel are only a few of the things most organizations do among many others such as branching out into local communities.
In the current state of the world, refugees have always been a “problem”. Refugee’s have never really had a safe place in any country. As of 2015, over 1.6 billion people were considered Muslim but no matter where the refugee goes, they are seen as a terrorist (Lipka 2017). Almost half of these Muslims are children. Feliz Solomon wrote an article about the Rohingya refugees. In the article “Rohingya Children Are in Desperate Need of Aid, the U.N. says” the author Solomon was able to explain the trouble the Rohingya children were facing by using the elements ethos, logos, and pathos.
War and Children, two things that should never go together, but happen too often. Especially, the war in Syria. Many Syrian children don’t have access to education, clean water, food and optimum health care. Schooling and Prescribed Medication have become rarities. The Syrian War is the most damaging war for children in the area’s modern history not only with physical violence but the mental scarring is just as damaging. With the death tolls rising, children are the main targets. There are many who try to escape, but even when they think they’re safe the unpredictable can happen.
I chose the topic of my written presentation Save the Children from organizations relat-ed to health. In my opinion this organization works for important cause because children are the future and they must be protect and helped globally and locally. In my opinion it`s adults duty to make the best to support children in their growth and development and support children in distress.
