On January 27, 1972, Ralph Baer introduced something magnificent to the world. This something became well known as the Magnavox Odyssey. The Magnavox Odyssey was the very first video game console that was ever created; games like Roulette, Simon Says, Table Tennis, etc. were able to be purchased for the console. The system was a complete success, being as nobody had ever seen such a thing like it before. Baer’s invention of the Magnavox Odyssey was only the beginning of the advancements made to technology. Since we live in such a competitive society, it was almost inevitable for the Magnavox Odyssey to be topped. As history continued, we were introduced to the Atari 2600 VCS, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Sony PlayStation, Microsoft XBOX, and Wii. Of course, these are only a few of the main video game consoles that have been made over time, there are far too many to list. After the Magnavox Odyssey, Atari 2600 VCS was the next big thing that was let out for consumers; it was released on October 1, 1977. Al Acorn is the original master-mind behind the making of this particular console, and he was hired by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, who are the founders of the Atari Company. The Atari system brought a new level of gaming to the world. The Atari system featured games such as: Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Asteroids, Missile Command, etc. Many of these games are even still played today. You can find Pac-Man on almost any web site with games, or in any video game store. Atari was such a huge and successful company for many years, it was not until the outburst of video games in 1983 that the company had lost all of its successfulness.
