In life, change is unavoidable. Les Brown once said, “Change is difficult, but often essential to survival.” This means it’s hard to deal with the changes that happen around us, but they’re important because they let us move forward with our lives. I agree with this statement because I’ve experienced things that made me realize the truth of this quote. The first occurrence is when I had to leave America to go the Philippines. The second one is when I had to leave the Philippines and go back to America.

The first way this quote relates to my life is when I had to move from America to the Philippines. To understand this story, you first need to know a bit about me. I was born in the Philippines but my family moved to America in 2004 when I was only 4 and a half years old. I can’t remember much before then so I can’t really say that I was deeply affected. I learned how to speak English very quickly, but unfortunately I also started to forget how to speak Tagalog (a Filipino dialect my family speaks). In 2008, when I was 8 years old, my parents told me and my brother that we had to go back to the Philippines and they weren’t going with us. When I asked them why, they only told me that my grandma was unable to take care of us after school anymore and nobody else could do it. I asked them why they weren’t going with us and they told me it’s because they still have jobs to go to. I was still young back then so I didn’t put much thought into it. Now that I think about it, that’s probably not the only reason. I still don’t know the entire story but whatever it was, sending us back to the Philippines was probably the only choice my parents had. Since we were too young to fly by ourselves, my mom came with us. When we landed...

...but with the help of my friends and family I was just fine. No matter how hard it was, I was still happy that I can finally be with my parents after 3 years of being separated. These changes weren’t easy to handle, but things got better after some time and I am happy where I am now.

According to Les Brown, “Change is difficult, but often essential to survival.” This means it’s always hard to go through change, but they’re important because they make us ready for life. The first way this relates to my life is when I had to move from America to the Philippines. The second way this relates to my life is when I had to move from the Philippines back to America. Everybody go through changes and most of the time they may seem unbearable. The one thing people need to understand is that the changes that they go through now is what will help them in the future.
