These questions among others defined the facts to find current trends based on various demographic profiles to gauge the best options to define a successful mobile marketing campaign (Fullsail.com, 2010). Demographic Overviews Survey Subject one is a female entrepreneur 40 years of age who has used cell phones for seven years. Subject two is a male account executive 35 years of age and owns two cell phones one for personal use and one provided by his employer. Cell phones play an integral role in our lives, and we conduct many useful functions through them daily. If a mother wants to inform her kids that she would be late to pick them up from their school, the cell phone would provide a good medium to communicate that message. Flip phones and home phones, with the classic 9 number keyboards, are being replaced with touch screens that allow for more interactive and advanced phones. The Apple iPhone and the Google Android are two examples of how technology is advancing the way we communicate. These smartphones, backed by each company’s unique business models, have changed the way cellular devices are used and sold.
In a world that is rapidly becoming faster paced, finding various means to keep up with the changing environment is a must. Cell phones are one of the most practical inventions of time that make this possible. However, the subtle effect they have on our culture today, their invasion of our privacy, and the possible health risks they may cause are reasons to reassess the value of this intriguing device. While cell phones may be valuable, they are also potentially harmful.
Telecommunications gained mainstream attention in the early 90’s; however the initial key market was business men and women, who used their phones whilst being on the move and so allowing them to communicate with their companies with ease. Though in the modern era, telecommunication went through segmentation in the market trends, and now in this day and age it would be difficult to find someone who does not own some form of mobile technology. In recent years, cell phones have become highly accessible and a necessity in the United States and around the globe. Since their beginning, they were very uncommon, but now, they have become an everyday need and are portable and pocket-sized to perform a wide variety of tasks. Cell phones were exclusively used for making calls, but now they perform numerous tasks besides just being a phone. Sometimes we get a little bit anxious the moment we realize we can’t find our phone, but is evidence that, phones have taken over our lives in ways that we could not anticipate (Arandilla,2012). In a recent study, individuals are communicating more via text messages and cell phone than face-to-face interactions, changing our social surroundings. According to a CNN article publication, “the telephone call is a dying institution and the number of text messages sent monthly in the US exploded from 14 billion in 2000 to 188 billion in 2010” (Klugar,2012). We take our cell phones with us everywhere we go either to the workplace, on dates, to parties, ceremonies or even to religious meetings. Modern cell phones help in so many tasks such as text messaging, emailing, internet access, video gaming and among several others. In a report by the Huffington Post, “about 88 percent of American adults own a cell phone” (New, 2012). Mobile phones dictate the way we live and unfortunately, have a negative impact on our social relationships in terms of trust and empathy, replacing face-to-face interaction, making people less aware of their surroundings and becoming too attached to their cell phones.
The year is 2014, the markets are changing constantly, and they always have to meet the needs of new consumers as well as old consumers. Mobile telephones have been in the retail and wholesale business for quite some time, and are only evolving from here on out. There are things that these cell phones can bring us that are major benefits in our everyday lives. Cell phones bring us maps, radios, address books, and even flashlights now. Cell phones have taken shape from a huge portable device to a more convenient thin device that can fit in your pocket. With time in any consumer market, the consumer adapts to the technology that makes their life easier. The constant innovation of cell phones has led us to smart phones, and these smart phones are capable of putting certain businesses out of the market. Businesses that engineered PDAs in the past were met with challenges because smart phones are able to match their productivity. Land lines have become useless since everyone can afford a mobile device now. Listening to music has also switched from a traditional CD Player/MP3 Player to an everyday smart phone.
In today’s world the vast majority of the population owns a cell phone. Cell phones are a huge part of people’s everyday lives. Since the 1940’s when mobile phones became available for automobiles, phone companies have made huge strides in making mobile phones more efficient, much smaller, and more available for anyone to use. Cell phones play a huge role in today’s economy. Businesses such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint have become huge public corporations with large stakes in the stock market. Between these companies among several other phone companies they have created millions of jobs and opportunities. Cell phone companies have now created what are known as “smart phones”. These phones are typically slim and sleek and have countless versatile abilities. However, cell phones have not always been so “smart” or small for that matter.
Marketing is a fundamental aspect of all businesses, whether they are set out to make a profit, or charitable organisations - they will have to carry out marketing research of some description.
