About Celia’s House

Celia’s house designed to address the multitude of issues related to adolescent mothers and to give homeless mothers a second chance at success. Celia’s House goal is to put young mothers on a firm path of long-term economic stability which provides young mothers with support to become self-sufficient parents. Celia’s House is a non-institutional group home setting were teen mothers are provided with supportive relationships, counseling, educational incentives, and support for long-term economic independence, child development, and parenting and life skills.

so many girls in one place at one time that had so many cases of abuse, neglect and a host of so many issues, this new job was so interesting to me. For several years I continued to work on the weekend and twice I left to give birth on maternity leave, and I had no plans of returning, however, I received a phone call from the director of childcare asking me to return so I returned at her …show more content…

At fifteen I received a call from Celia at work and she stated that she was pregnant, and she asked me if I could purchase maternity under garments for her. Celia gave birth to a daughter and for a short while she had parental guardianship. Celia became homeless, her daughter was placed in the system and, the cycle began to repeat itself. It appeared that Celia gave up on life, however, she made an unselfish decision and she stated that she did not want her daughter to go thru what she experienced in life and or in the system, so she signed papers to put her daughter up for adoption, her daughter was adopted by a loving family.
Celia surrendered her life to the streets. I have often asked myself over the years what if there were a better support system, what if she had the opportunity to feel safe, be a child and then an adolescent who was preparing for the prom and or maybe thinking about college, what if she had the life skills, an education and appropriate adult supervision to guide her with the adjustment to
