The cacophonous side effects obtained from smoking cigarettes decreases the life span of the people who smoke cigarettes. On the one hand, smoking cigarettes contains bewildering chemicals strong enough to annihilate one’s level of stress; however, the echelon of mind blowing toxins supplementary to the average cigarette provokes cancerous cells inside the smoker’s body. Smoking cigarettes can bring an abundant amount of cause and effects to a smoker and deteriorates the run-of-the-mill smoker’s immune system.
Peer pressure transfuses one of the main causes that can influence a person to pick up smoking. “Peer pressure obtains the single biggest reason that most teenagers jump into the obnoxious habit of smoking (Buzzle, 2011).” Teenagers feel that if they see their friends smoking a cigarette, then they are compelled to smoke one as well. “Teenagers are not the only age group swindled into smoking by peer pressure; adults are bamboozled into smoking as well (Buzzle, 2011).” Adults are much harder to pressure into smoking because their self-confidence level scales higher than teenagers’. There are multitudinous other factors that cause someone to pick up the repugnant smoking habit.
Stressful situations often matriculate people into inhaling the harmful chemicals found in cigarettes. “The chemical substance nicotine relieves higher levels of stress (Buzzle, 2011).” Stress attacks a persons’ brain and persuades a person into trying anything that will help crumble stress. “The average chronic smoker will tell you that smoking a cigarette completely pounds their stress level out of their body (Johnson, 2011).” In all reality, smoking does not diminish your level of stress; the chemicals corrupt your thinking process. Not only do ...

The most common form of tobacco used is the cigarette. Smoking for most people gives satisfaction and pleasure. The tobacco chemicals that are released into the brain when inhaled cause a happy or joyous feeling to the person. People often turn to cigarettes to suppress hunger or relieve stress (Dichter). After a short period of time, a person can become addicted to the satisfaction they get from smoking a cigarette. Certain tobacco products contain toxins, carcinogens, and poisons that are all extremely harmful to the human body. 60 chemicals that are contained in a tobacco cigarette are cancer-causing agents (Wexner). It is these chemicals that make cigarettes as well as other tobacco products so addicting to their users. Over time the need for a cigarette increases and the harder it becomes to quit smoking. Some users turn to smoking alternatives in order to quit. The first thing a smoker will reach for is something that looks and feels similar to a normal cigarette.
Smoking cigarettes is a detrimental practice not only to the smoker, but also to everyone around the smoker. According to an article from the American Lung Association, “Health Effects” (n.d.), “Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., causing over 438,000 deaths per year”. The umbrella term for tobacco use includes the use of cigarettes, cigars, e-cigs and chewing tobacco. While tobacco causes adverse health consequences, it also has been a unifying factor for change in public health. While the tobacco industries targets specific populations, public health specifically targets smokers, possible smokers, and the public to influence cessation, policies and education.
When I went to visit my grandmother in the hospital, she was critically ill. I heard the doctor say that she would have a much better chance of survival if she had not been a smoker most of her life. I made the decision then that I would not smoke. Every day more than 3,000 teenagers become regular smokers. That number translates to more than 1 million teenagers a year. About one third of them will eventually die from a tobacco-related disease. Cigarettes kill more than 400,000 Americans every year. A person who smokes a pack or more of cigarettes each day will live about seven fewer years than a nonsmoker. Further, smoking hurts young people's physical performance and endurance. Smoking in young people can hamper both the rate of lung growth and the level of maximum lung functioning. Young people who regularly smoke cough more, have increased phlegm, and more frequency and severity of respiratory illnesses. The Surgeon General's report found that the younger a person starts smoking cigarettes, the more likely he or she is to become strongly addicted to nicotine.
Since the 1950s, more than 70,000 scientific articles have left no doubt that smoking is an extraordinarily important cause of premature mortality and disability around the world. In populations where cigarette smoking has been common for several decades, about 90% of cases of lung cancer, 15–20% of cases of other cancers, 75% of cases of chronic bronchitis and emphysema and 25% of deaths from cardiovascular diseases in those 35–69 years of age are attributable to tobacco. Studies have shown that half of all long-term smokers will die of a tobacco-related disease and, of these, half will die before the age of 65 (World bank, 1999).

One puff equals one life of misery: Smoking at first can seem harmless, but ones’ choice to experiment with cigarettes can turn into a costly habit, that is addictive and eventually, deadly. According to Factslides, “ Smoking a cigarette causes damage in minutes not years”. Every cigarette is filled with harmful chemicals that will leave someone with health problems and cancer, wishing that they hadn’t started smoking in the first place. Smoking is a problem among most adults and sadly, teenagers. Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, and it is a disgusting habit. Cigarette smoking can have many negative effects: it can create health problems, financial problems, and hygiene problems. The main problem with smoking is that it can damage your health. According to Tobacco Fact File, “On average, each cigarette shortens your life anywhere from seven to eleven minutes. In other words, the time it takes you to smoke a cigarette equals the time that cigarette takes

Approximately 3,000 teenagers pick up the smoking habit each day in America. That is roughly one million new teenage smokers per year. About 60% of all high school students try smoking by the time they are seniors because they think it is a cool thing to do (Johnston.) In 1996, smoking rates are 21 percent among eighth-graders (13-14 years old), 30 percent among 10th-graders (15-16 years old), and 34 percent among 12th-graders (17-18 years old). These rates are impressively high, especially when compared to the fact that about 25 percent of all adults are classified as current smokers according to the National Health Interview Survey.
Scientists and health officials have been arguing the detrimental effects smoking has on our health for many years. Smoking can lead to serious complications including asthma, pancreas, lung and stomach cancer due to the large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and other various substances added to it. It is a health hazard for both smokers and non-smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects of the habit take over the positive. As it has been stressed by the scientists and experts, there are some very severe reasons of smoking but its crucial consequences should also be taken into consideration.
