Case Analysis D: Leadership Dynamics

Capital Veterinarian Clinic, CVC, is a veterinary clinic that offers preventive and curative health care services to animals. It was founded by Dr. Robert Stevenson, in 1971. CVC’s staff has significantly grown over the years. Leadership is a critical part of the organization, just like any other venture. Leadership is the process of planning, coordinating, motivating, and organizing in order to influence others so as to attain set objectives and goals. Leadership is a dynamic exercise and has an effect on the attainment of goals in any organization. As such, this paper will look into the leadership dynamics of CVC and the competencies of good leaders.

CVC has mixed leadership dynamics. Some of its leadership criteria are good, but there are also some poor aspects in its leadership. CVC has a good organizational structure. This provides a good platform for the organization’s leadership to reach to the lowest levels of staff. For example, interns join the organization under the supervision of staff veterinarians, who answer to the senior staff veterinarian, who in turn answers to the clinic director. Such a hierarchy provides proper supervision to the lowest levels. Undertakings performed by the low level staff in the organization can be well monitored and coordinated.

Even with such a well-structured hierarchy, the organization’s leadership still faces some challenges. Lack of magnetic influence of some of the leaders is one of the bottlenecks. This is evident in the case of Dr. Silverstein who stepped down due to her poor management techniques. She lacked leadership magnetism and proper communication techniques. ...s work well if their leaders have these key traits. Good leadership goes a long way. It is a motivation to employees, it improves on the functionality and productivity of an organization, and it also improves on the image of an organization to the clients. If all the leaders at different levels of the hierarchy employ these traits, the organization would function very effectively.
