Celebrities are put on pedestals and all aspects of their lives are put in the spotlight; even the bad things. In addition, until something bad about a celebrity is exposed, they are viewed as better people who couldn’t possibly have anything wrong with them. Celebrities give other people the impression that they are living the good life, and that they are completely normal; however, this is rarely the case among celebrities. They are humans, just like everyone else and most of them have problems that a lot of people can relate to. Some celebrities even suffer from mental illnesses; Carrie Fisher is one of them. Fisher is most recognized for her appearance in Star Wars, where she performed as the character Princess Leia.
Fisher was born in Beverly Hills, California on October 21, 1956; she is a baby boomer. She grew up during the time of the Cold War, and just after World War II. Moreover, Fisher and her family’s lives may have been impacted from living in Beverly Hills. For example, after World War II, Beverly Hills “continued to develop as one of the most glamorous places in the world to live, eat, play and, especially, shop” (City of Beverly Hills, n.d). It was also a hot spot for movies and TV shows to be filmed. Beverly Hills was a desirable place for a lot of people. Research does not indicate that the Cold War or living in Beverly Hills negatively impacted Fisher or her family, but rather the impression is that they were able to experience the brighter side of things during that time period.
Furthermore, while Fisher might not have been negatively impacted by the war or by where she lived, she certainly had a dysfunctional childhood which left its mark. Fisher is the daughter of two famous people, Eddie Fisher and Deb...

Fisher faced quite a bit of trauma in her life. If Fisher went to therapy to seek help for her issues, she would most likely seek help for her depression or her drug addiction. One might think that she would seek help for her disorder; however, people who suffer from bipolar disorder usually only seek treatment when they are experiencing a depressive episode.

Born Audrey Kathleen Ruston on May 4, 1929 to parents Joseph Hepburn-Ruston and Ella van Heemstra, Audrey lived with her two half-brothers, in Brussels, Belgium. She and her brothers lived a luscious life as young children, seeing that her mother was a Dutch Baroness who was descended from French and English kings and her father a well-known business man and banker. Audrey’s father later appended Hepburn to his surname, thus Audrey becoming Hepburn-Ruston (Biography of Audrey Hepburn.) In 1935 Joseph and Ella divorced, and Audrey recalled it to be one of the most traumatic events of her life. In the early years after the divorce, Audrey and her mother lived in England, but with the outbreak of World War II, her mother moved them to the Netherlands; this area was neutral and her mother’s home country. Much to her mother’s dismay, on May 10, 1940, Nazi Germans invaded the Netherlands and Audrey’s family, consisting of Audrey’s mother and her two half-brothers were forced to endure hardships of war (Audrey Hepburn 1929-1993.) Audrey suffered severely during the war, and became increasingly malnourished (Facts about Audrey Hepburn.)

Part of that is because some people’s perspectives of celebrities allow them think as if they’re on a pedestal and are more important than the average human. When people vision these celebrities as these quintessential people it enable’s their own thoughts and opinions on the celebrity. It’s like brainwashing, these celebrities only show the media what they want, which allows them to put up a whole façade and mask who they truly are. During the O.J Simpson trial it opened more people’s minds to visualize the concept that celebrities have the ability to be just as deranged as the average person, and that we are all equal, but the only difference that’s separates us is the fact that their job is in the lime
If there is one individual in the celebrity world that is known for his or her troubled thoughts or misbehavior, there isn’t anyone better to recognize other than Lindsay Lohan. An American star, model, and singer, Lohan was recognized in all different aspects of Hollywood because of her talents as a young actress. However, as her stardom continued to progress, so did the instability in her mental health. The mass media and people alike had an influence on Lohan’s behavior by distorting how she was portrayed on and off the screen. Lohan’s family life also had a huge impact on her turnout because she was constantly around the instability of her family members, thus affecting her mental
Watching Marilyn Monroe as she moves across the large silver screen with her signature sensual grace in the 1961 film The Misfits, it is hard to believe that by this point in her career, she had lost virtually all sway over her impulsivity. Her day to day existence had become a series of endless crises that grew more frantic and destructive. She was in a desperate and losing struggle within herself. In retrospect, the wrenching dilemmas she faced off the set gave her portrayal of Roslyn a surreal if not convincing quality that provoked familiar feelings of pity, tenderness, and compassion.
Norma Jeane Baker, also known as Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926 daughter of Gladys Baker and an unknown father. Most of Marilyn’s childhood was spent in foster homes after her mother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and deemed unfit to care for her in 1933. In numerous foster homes Marilyn was sexually assaulted. In 1942 Marilyn married her neighbor, Jim so she wouldn’t be relocated to another foster home. Marilyn dropped high school and became a housewife with a husband who was deployed in World War II. In September 1946, she divorced Dougherty, who was against her having a career (“Marilyn Monroe”). In her life she had a total of nineteen flings, one of them involving President Kennedy, and three marriages originated out of the flings, but they all ended in divorce. The events in her early childhood shaped her to the confident woman she became.
Even though some parents believe Hollywood has a positive impact on their children most believe otherwise. Children can develop health problems from having a celebrity role model; such as, anorexia, self-harm, or self-esteem issues. Youth do this to obtain that celebrity look of ‘perfection’. Celebrities act as role models for youth throughout the nation and they should live up to it.
As a child, Streisand was very shy and describes her childhood as a painful experience. She often felt rejected by other kids because of her looks. Her stepfather was also emotionally abusive, and found no support from her mother, who thought Barbra was not pretty enough to make it in show business. Barbra went to school at Bais Yaakov School, and sang in the school choir. She also went to Erasmus Hall High School, where she met Neil Diamond, who she would collaborate with in the future. Before graduating from high school, Streisand traveled into New York City to study acting. She met Anita and Alan Miller at the age of 15, and made an agreement with the couple to babysit their children, and in return Alan would give her a scholarship to his acting school. She graduated from Erasmus High School at the age of 16, and was nu...
Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jean Mortenson in Los Angeles on June 1st, 1926 to Gladys Baker. She was illegitimate, so the name Mortenson was assigned by the hospital. At twelve days old, she was taken away from her mother and placed in the care of Ida and Albert Bolender where she would remain for the next seven years. At the age of two, she was nearly smothered to death by a foster grandparent, and at the age of six Monroe was not the only foster child that the Bolender’s took in; there were often three of four other children in the household. During her seven years in the Bolender’s care, Monroe had 13 foster siblings come and go. The Bolender’s we...
Society always wants to keep an eye on their favorite celebrities’ life. It is fundamental. Every little detail the public wants to follow like what and where they are eating, whom they will marry, or what they are doing all day –such a vicious cycle.
Celebrities have many of today's youth watching them, and young people are turning to their idols for judgement on what's right and wrong. Because of the First Amendment, the famous, along with everyone else, have the right to say and do what they want within legal limits, and follow whatever religion they choose. The press also have the right to write and report about celebrities. However, the famous also have the responsibility to be mindful of who is looking up to them and following their every move. They are often thrust into the position of role model before they are ready. They influence this country's future leaders, and are crucial to a child's moral upbringing. A question that must be posed is: Does achieving your dream and becoming famous mean you must sacrifice some basic rights in order to show kids how to live their lives?
Each individual has a right to voice his or her opinion. Celebrities such as actors and actresses constantly lecture the citizens of the United States on political and social issues of today’s society. Because of their loud personalities, they seem to believe that America wants to listen to their opinion. The voices of Hollywood declare they are standing up for the common individual and giving a voice to those who do not have one. The truth is, they are nothing like the majority of U.S. citizens, and should not act like they are. Their lifestyle and perception of the world is completely different from most people. Most people do not hold award ceremonies congratulating themselves while wearing outrageously expensive dresses and receiving goodie bags that equal a year’s salary of a typical American worker. Most people do not criticize the human rights given to them. Perhaps people need to stop enabling Hollywood and entitling them to act in such a manner. Double standards of Hollywood. People are such frauds. Man made global warming. How much energy spent in order to properly light the
