Introduction:

1.1 Definition and description

A police officer is a person who has to enforce the law, investigates crimes and has the power to make arrests. The police department in Australia is called the Australian Federal Police or AFP for short. Policemen are responsible for making sure everyone is following the laws in all states and territories. The AFP headquarters are in Canberra, Australia.

Police officers can have many different aspects of their job, from patrolling general areas to raiding houses and making arrests. Police officers can have a fun job but it also takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

1.2 Qualifications

The minimum requirements of a police officer include:
• At least 18 years of age
• A full, manual vehicle drivers licence
• Able to satisfy medical and fitness requirements
• Australian citizenship
• Year 12 education or year 10 education with a trade certificate
• Have a senior first aid certificate
• Be physically fit and healthy
