Many of my friends pick their careers based on money and trade skills that they have. I am proficient in art and design, but didn’t feel like that was what I wanted to do for my career. It is way more than just money or a skill. I wanted to do something unique, something interesting, something that would inspire me to be a better human, something that would make me feel, something that is challenging, something that helped others, and above all, something that was rewarding and made me feel fulfilled.
... The sole worst part about being a realtor is that income is based solely on commission, that means if you sell nothing you earn nothing. In addition to the work being highly technical and requiring a lot of business knowledge, the cost of being in business is extremely high. There is the cost of taking the classes, getting licensed, and annual realtor fees. You also have to pay for commuting cost, phone and internet bills, and the number one expense, advertising. A second downside of being a realtor is proficiency time. It can take years of dedication to long hours to become a successful realtor. But even then your wage is based on market activity. The complexity of being a realtor is a huge drawback. There is not enough time in the day for one to advertise and solicit, market, and manage sales, in addition to keeping up with general office obligations.

One of the most important decisions that any high school student or young adult has to make is deciding what they want to spend the rest of their life doing. Coming into this year I didn't have a clue what I wanted to have as my career. Obviously everybody has their dream job, mine being a pro basketball player overseas, but everybody needs a backup plan if their dreams do not pan out. Recently, I started researching certain careers and taking tests ,such as the WISCareers interest inventory, to decide what career would fit my interests the best. After all the tests and research, I came to the conclusion that becoming a loan officer was what suited me and my interests the best("WISCareers")."Loan officers evaluate, authorize, or recommend approval of loan applications for people and businesses"("Bureau of Labor Statistics"). Being a loan officer is the perfect job for me because they have flexible hours, an above average salary, and a limited amount of schooling.

As it turns out, having chosen to job shadow my grandfather and to learn about the occupation of being a real estate agent was an excellent choice. I originally thought that there may not be a lot to write about, but I quickly learned that there was much more to real estate than I had ever imagined. I discovered that in real estate, a community of individuals and companies work together to keep the process of buying and selling properties running smoothly. Learning about the daily activities, and actively searching out the many organizations that agents work with was far more complicated and challenging that I had originally expected. My knowledge and respect for this occupation has grown tremendously.
