The one career that is passionate about helping people is a Registered Nurse. Nurses have a lot of task to attend to throughout the day, but they always make sure the patient is take care of. This would require a lot of time and effort. Some people might say that the money is worth it. There are many reasons a person would want to become a Registered Nurse, but they do not know how serious this particular job really is.
Nursing started with the publication on the book called The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit in 1844. This book alone caused attention to the nursing care in England. In those times nurses were uneducated and passed down new learning to new generations every year. At a bleak point in history nursing was passed on to Florence Nightingale to reform nursing. She was a well-known scientist, who added more knowledge of the scientific portion too nursing. Nightingale also helped nursing become a more organized by splitting them up into two separate groups, lower class and upper class, and they worked together. Registered Nursing became known in the U.S. in 1910 at the University of Columbia, where Mary Adelaine, Isabel Steoalet, and nursing professors at Columbia University, made efforts to take nursing into the college or university setting.
In the U.S. today you must obtain a nursing license. Registered Nurses must graduate from an approved nursing program and also complete and pass the National Council License Examination for Registered Nursing. To certify for this test you must attend at least a four year college and have or received a bachelor’s or associates degree. To obtain a license, the graduate will have to pass the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX) to become a licensed nurse. The NCLEX, which is a computerized test, is only offered on a computer. The test requires you to answer at least, 75 questions and a maximum of 265 questions. The testers only have six hours to finish the test, which in my opinion is more than enough time. However, in order to pass this test, the computer must be 95 percent certain that the test taker is above the passing standard. Certifications for nurses recognize their knowledge and skills within a specific area. In fact, nurses with certifications in special areas earn more than those who aren’t certified. In order to earn certifications, the nurse will have to successfully pass an exam. This exam is offered through nursing associations that offer certification test. I chose this career because it’s something I have always wanted to do even when I was little I wanted to be a nurse so it just stuck with me. The one who stood behind the influence of the idea of nursing was FLorence NIghtingale. Florence NIghtingale was a smart women that lived in Great Britain. She was the daughter of wealthy parents and was passionate about nursing. She would also help people in hospitals and take care of sick patients. Her falsify was that she thought that well educated women should use scientific methods to live by a healthy lifestyle. In 1854, Florence Nightingale played an important role as being a nurse in the Britain's Crimean war. There was newspapers about the soldiers that were being sick and injured in the war, so she was later asked to bring as group of women to the military at Scutari. Florence and the other nurses started a process of preparing food, medications, treatments, and making sure that the soldiers were getting enough ventilation. The attentive care that the soldiers received from the nurses prevented infectious diseases and illness. Even though the nurses in the 1800’s had terrible conditions to work in, the nurses were still successful. Nursing is one of the largest and the most diverse and has the most respect as a job. Since its establishment as a profession more than a century ago, Nursing has been a source for numerous debates related to its course, methods and development of nursing knowledge.
