Bullying is an issue that is a problem in society today. Bullying is any kind of unwanted behavior to an individual on repeated occasions which is a display of power over someone. Bullying is mainly common among students in school, and unfortunately, it happens in other places like at home between parents and children, and on rare occasions, among adults. When people began to identify bullying for what it is, it was only known as a physical aggression towards others, but over the course of time, bullying has moved from just physical bullying to verbal bullying, and power abuse in the workplace between co-workers in different ranks. In a book called Welfare Brat: A Memoir, Mary was bullied in school by boys on the streets, and unfortunately, she was verbally bullied by her mom. Bullying among children in the society is caused by different reasons, and affects its victims negatively.
Knowing the types of ways an individual can be bullied is important. The common type of bullying is among children in school, which in most cases, happens physically: whereby the child is beaten, which Mary and her brother Ralph experienced while growing up. For example, Mary’s brother on several occasions went home from school with bruises which he got from being hit by his classmates. Physical bullying occurs when a student is trying to gain power over peers and to get such power, him or her results to hitting, which in return is detrimental to the victim. Physical bullying is the easiest type of bullying to be identified, thereby, making it a little bit easier to stop or control.
Verbal bullying occurs when someone uses language to gain power over his or her peers, which happens with insulting classmates, teasing them because o...

... body. According to Mary Childers, “Ralph’s even tougher than I was. I learned early not to bring home complaints about kids and teachers . . . Ralph’s silence costs him more because his world is more dangerous than mine when I was young, and boys face substantial physical threats” (160). Children need to be encouraged more often about having courage so that they can speak out and be helped.
Although bullying continues to be an issue in our society, but mainly in schools, all we can do is keep educating kids on what is right and wrong, letting them know the consequences of their actions both to its victim and to themselves. Also, parents can be more enlightened on how to raise their kids in healthier way so that they do not grow up seeking for attention or power in the wrong ways.

The general definition of bullying is, “… [This] states that a person is being bullied when he or she is exposed repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons” (Aluede et al. 3). There are two different variations in bullying type such as direct and indirect bullying (Aluede et al. 3). Direct bullying is publicly attacking someone, whereas, someone who harasses their victim by exiling them socially is a form of indirect bullying (Aluede et al. 3). A lot of people think that the typical bullying situation is physical, but it can go beyond that (“Verbal Bullying” 1) Bullying can be put into four different areas of harassment; physical, verbal, emotional, and cyber bullying (“Teenage Bullying” 1).
Bullying is an ongoing form of aggression characterized by intent, repetition and an inequity of power (Ma, Stewin & Mah, 2001). It is expressed through a variety of methods including physical, verbal, cyber, and relational. While it can be either overt or covert it is usually proactive, since bullies tend to seek victims without provocation (Beaty & Alexeyev, 2008).
Two of the most common types of bullying are verbal and physical. Verbal bullying is known as name calling and insulting others for the way they look, etc. In the book, “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, there are a variety of examples that show these types of bullying. One example in this book that shows verbal bullying is when the socs(higher social class) were calling the lower class “greasers” because of their social class. Another example found in this book would be when the socs make fun of how much grease the “greasers” put in their hair and when the socs threaten Ponyboy and his friends to leave their girlfriends alone.

Bullying can be define as “ intentional, usually recurrent, action designed to inflict physical and psychological harm on another person or persons by one or more persons and is part of a complex interplay of dominance and social status”( Marsh,). Bullying can take place when a target child exposed to social egression by some of his or her peers, who perceive hem or her in lower state. Aggression behaviors and bullying can be confused together as perceiving them as they are the same thing but they are not. Aggression behaviors and bullying can be confused together as perceived as they are the same thing. They are not the same think because psychologists explained that aggression behaviors are the aggressive actions that people express against each other for specific period of time. While bullying on the other hand, is continuous aggression against specific person in which, this person exposure to aggressiveness is not limited to a one time incident. ”( Marsh, H). Being a bully or a victim sometime is not exclusive to certain individuals or groups because sometimes individual play both roles. An individual can be a bully due to his or his past experience of being bullied. Contrary, a former bully can be a victim as a consequence of his or her past behavior.( Marsh,)
“School bullying can be physical, verbal, sexual, emotional, racial, religious, [cyber] or a combination of these forms” (Vassar 19). Physical bullying involves: hitting, pushing, tripping, slapping, and spitting; physical bullying may cross the line of sexual bullying. It is a serious problem that is affecting the bully, victim, and witnesses. This usually occurs with males and also can happen with females, whom are usually stronger than their victims. Middle school is the age when bullying is common because they are attempting to fit in with others their age. Signs of someone who is a victim of bullying include: damaged clothing, returning home with cuts, bru...
Bullying has many definitions. Each person defines it differently based on what he or she believes. Some people believe that bullying is an attempt to control someone. Others believe that bullying is just students causing pain to their peers. To me, bullying is putting others down to make the bully feel better; it is causing unnecessary pain for unacceptable reasons.
When parents and teacher understand the potential cause of why bullies decide to bully, they can make the decision to show their children that bullying isn 't right and could help to prevent bullying in the future. The effect of bullying could result hurting others and the bullies might be criminals in the future and these bullies have show lack of communication skill, but luckily there are programmes for them, such as church and today many schools have policy and these bullies should get more involved in their community and get an inside of what happened when kids get bullied and how bullying could lead to suicide.

The three important components to bullying are as followed; bullying is aggressive behavior that involves unwanted, negative actions, bullying involves a pattern of behavior repeated over time, and bullying involves an imbalance of power and strength (Olweus1). At one point in time, bullying had meant a push on the playground, or a mean slur, however bullying has progressed from then. Bullying can be described as the systematic abuse of power (Smith3). How can society possibly put an end to bullying, there can be as many sit downs with the children of today’s generation, but it is nearly impossible to put an end to this ongoing epidemic among the children of today. Many students are victims of bullying and not even half of the victims file reports against their attacker. Do Something, a Nationwide anti bullying organization said that “Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year”. What can possibly be done to reduce and or possibly get rid of this number of students that are being bullied? The United States of America is currently fighting a war with bullying, and so far are losing. Although the number of state and federal laws against bullying have been increased, it seems that there have been more incidents that have not been heard about until it is far too late for something to be done.
Bullying does not have a standard definition. Bullying can be anything from calling someone else names, beating them up just for the fun of it, to texting or messaging them on the internet or any mobile device. Any person can be the victim of bullying, not just children. Bullying causes many issues, physically, emotionally, and mentally, not only for the victim, but for their entire families as well. Bullies have many different reasons as to why they start bullying someone else. The actions done to the victim leaves them with only a few options on how to stop being bullied. How they handle it is always different.
Have you ever been personally bullied by another person? Maybe you have not had your head forced into a locker, but verbally hurt? Bullying today can be quite serious. Bullying is when someone tries to hurt another person by hitting them or by simply hurting them with their words. Bullying is something that can have a huge impact on its victims. It might be something that lasts throughout their lives, or something that might cause them to take their lives. Bullies make small groups so that they can pick on other students who are small, fragile, and who can not defend themselves. Picking on someone should not be accepted because it can affect a person's well being in a drastic way. Bullying is believed to be a normal part of school life. However, when people begin to have that mentality they forget that bullying is psychologically and physically harmful to both the victim and the bully.
