Introduction Effective communication is one of the most important things to maintain a happy relationship. Communication will help to create a better atmosphere and to know what are the interests, thoughts and feelings of your loved one. All romantic relationships need a lot of communications from both sides. The main factor is interpersonal communication, which couples are able to overlap environments and create a relationship. We reviewed the movie “The Breakup” and have found the concepts of Integrating, differentiating, and terminating. This movie shows how ineffective communication can dissolve a relationship. The lack of communication is the main factor why Brooke and Gary break up. This couple tends to rely on other people instead of trying to solve their problems talking to each other. They avoid talking because every time a new conflict will begin. In many of the scenes the couple creates big arguments from small issues. In this paper, we will explain the scenes of the movie that can be compared to the interpersonal communication concepts. Description of the Interpersonal Communication The first concept we choose to write on is initiating. According to the book Looking Out Looking In, initiating is the first stage of a relationship, and it means to show interest in another person and to give signals that shows interest building up some kind of relationship. (Alder, 2012) In the movie one of the scenes where the concept of initiating is displayed is when Brooke is staring at a baseball game and Gary was sitting near her. Suddenly Gary offers Brooke a hot dog, after insisting several times she finally gets the hot dog. After the baseball game Gary invites Brooke to a date. 2 The second concept we choose to write on is dif... ... middle of paper ... ...gs. They should know what they like and dislike. Many times romantic partners forget the simple details their loved one like. Many arguments they had were about him, she never show her support. She only wanted for him to do things by himself, not him asking her to do them. When he finally thought things it was too late, Brooke was tired of always having the whole responsibility of the relationship. While all relationships can be difficult, romantic relationships seem to be some of the most complicated types. Sometimes two people can care for one another so much, yet they cannot seem to communicate effectively. When a lack of communication occurs between two people for a long period of time, it most likely will lead to a huge confrontation and possibly a complete dissolve of the relationship. The Break-Up is a movie that shows how important interpersonal communication is in relationships. The movie features Brooke and Gary, a couple which has been together for several years. This film ties in with Interpersonal Communications very well as it portrays its message of poor communication very well. What is the meaning of the word “relationship”? Most of us hear this word every day, in other words “a state of affairs existing between those having relations and dealings. There are four types of relationships: couple, family, and friend. Most of the relationships can be difficult, romantic relationship seem to be the most complicated types. Sometimes two lovers can care for each others, yet they cannot talk to each others. When a problem occurs between two people for a long time, it most likely will get to a fight and most of the time to end the relationship. While watching The Break-Up movie, showed a lot of elements of the interpersonal relationships. The movie talked about two couple stayed together for a long time. And they started to fight about minor stuff that leads to end the relationship.

Every relationship is a one of a kind. Couples communicate differently, they go through different stages, and they have different expectations of each other. This classic love story describes how people can change once they interact with other people. Moreover, this is an example of how human beings in general need interaction to be normal functioning citizens of society. Having relationships, can make a person feel better about him and can possibly revolutionize or emerge a personality that was quiescent due to lack of interaction. This video demonstrates many facets of interpersonal communication.
It is important to realize that interpersonal conflict exists in every instance of interpersonal relationship. It is equally important to understand that conflicts in a relationship are not always a detrimental thing. Conflict resolution involves several aspects of effective interpersonal communication. Self-disclosure, messages (and message meaning), and transactional communication not only contribute to the solution, but can be by-products as well. Relationships are dynamic (Hamlett, Cycle 3). So too will be the conflicts that arise. Our ability to adapt and implement effective conflict resolution can actually strengthen a relationship and make the relationship more valuable.
Relationships play an important role in everyday life. It is essential for the positive, social and mental development of the people required in the relationship. It starts off with infatuation and goes through several stages. Somewhere along the way the relationship can take a toll and will take the brunt of the fall. It’s a theory that describes how relationships and relational partners change over time. This communication theory research paper will identify the theorist, his educational and professional background, along with other contributions that he has made. It will define the theory and explain it using tangible examples. Finally, I will describe what I have learned from my research.
