These two breeds, the Boxer and the American Staffordshire Terrier are a great fit to family life. It been said that dog is man's best friend, and because of this, it makes them great companions. For instance, when an owner tells his dog that he is a good boy, the dog happily wags its tail. Then, there are those times when an owner has to discipline his or her dog; it creeps away with that sad puppy dog look. The Boxer, and the American Staffordshire Terrier; have some similarities, but are different in many ways as to their ancestry, appearance, and health. The Boxer was first breed in the early 19th century in Germany, was used for dog fighting, bull-baiting and to run down and hold large game for their master. The Boxer received their name because of their ability to stand on their hind legs and bat at their opponent, appearing to box with its front paws, hence the name Boxer. In Germany, the Boxer was popular for their intellect and muscular strength. Germany later used the Boxer for guard and police dogs for their activeness. After World War 1, the Boxer came to America, where its popularity in the states climbed. A Boxer appearance is a medium-sized ranging in height of 22 to 25 inches tall weight of 65 to 72 pounds. Boxer colors are either fawn and white or brindle. White Boxer is the only color not recognize by the American kennel club. They have a chiseled head, which splits the Boxer unique head imparts.
