The Best Technology for Cars Company is retail store that sell high technology devices for cars since 2001. During the last years the Best Technology for Cars Company has been doing very well. As a result, our company has decided to expand business overseas. Our targeted country is Spain; however, this report is to advice the company’s executives of the social customs, family life, housing, clothing, and food, class structure, political influences on business, religions and beliefs, economy, and value systems in order to have successful business.
For those who don’t know Spain; is a European country that has been trading goods with the United States. The official name of Spain is Reino de España which it means Kingdom of Spain. Its official language is Spanish, also known as Castilian; which is spoken over 72% in the country (Spain). The main cities in Spain are Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Malaga, Bilbao and Madrid which it is the capital. The natural resources of Spain are coal, iron ore, mercury, zinc, lead, copper, hydropower, and uranium (Morrison pg. 371)

The company has grown over the years and owns over 165 stores in different countries such as China, United States, and Australia. The company has specialized in Yoga and provide a line of clothing in different countries. They host different events from free yoga classes to self defence, which are conducted by professionals. Each country has its own culture, with subcultures inside the dominant culture (Schaefer, 2009, p.69). “Culture is the totality of learned, socially transmitted custom, knowledge, material objects, and behavior” (Schaefer, 2009, p.57). Values, artifacts, and ideas are also part of culture (p57). With globalization there is the integration of these cultural aspects, as well as language, social movements, and ideas throughout the world (Schaefer, 2009, p.20). Internationalization helps with this integration. Internationalization is the process of planning and implementing products and services so that they can easily be adapted to specific local languages and cultures (Linfo, 2006). Numerous American retail firms have expanded to other countries. Many have been quite successful due to their internationalization. However, failure to study the culture, retail practices, and consumer market of the country they intend to expand to can be quite costly. Although Home Depot is one of the world’s largest home improvement stores, their expansion to Chile cost them enormous financial loss, resulting in their divestment (Bianchi & Ostale, 2006, section 1, para3). This paper will look at successful international expansion of Home Depot stores, analyze what mistakes were made in Chile, and make suggestions of what could have been done differently.

Spain, the third largest country in Europe, has a strong history and diverse culture dating back to when the Iberians first inhabited the land. The country lies between the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean and the land ranges from mountains to meadows. Over hundreds of centuries, many different civilizations have inhabited the land influencing the people there today. From the Visigoths and Celts to the Romans of the Middle Ages, Spain has received a rich history and background. One of the strongest of its cultures is the food. All of these cultures brought a particular type of food and combined and blended with the food that exists there today. Spain is very popular for olives, vineyards, and citrus fruit. Another well-liked food is garlic, including varieties of peppers and spices. Once spice specifically—golden saffron—is essential in many recipes, including the Spanish Paella. There are many distinguished Spanish foods that encompass the daily life and culture of the country.
Geography plays an important role in a countries beliefs, values and activities. “Traditional Spanish cooking has popular roots. It is the people's cuisine. Most of it is down-to-earth, uncomplicated food, based on the ingredients available locally or the crops grown regionally.
