The topic I chose to research was Movement Education. Have you every been in an environment in the same seat for hours and notice your self looking around, spacing out and time seeming to never move. Your focus is gone but then your allowed a 10 minute break and when you come back your focus is better then ever. This is what it is like for students in our schools with out movement education. Sitting in a seat for hours is physically tough for anyone to stay interested on any topic. Important breaks with movement involved are necessary for the heaths of are students learning experience. I think this is important for all ages of learning. It is a fact that after 15 minutes of learning it is hard for students to keep focus. Movement education allows students to think cognitively while moving physically which stimulates the brain and body; this allows the student to learn while being active. Being active also does two things for the student it allows them to regain focus while stimulating their brain and it settles the class down by taken some of the unneeded energy. Movement education is crucial especially at a young age. Movement is the architect of the brain, the mind and the body working together to build a non-verbal understanding of life. Working out an being active enhances the strength of your brain. In human development movement is crucial because it is a sensorimotor process. Your mind and body develop at the same time through the socialization process starting as an infant. Movement education is valuable from the start of your life to old age. ...rk. There are a number of ways to apply movement education. As long as you are challenging the students mentally and physically it is movement education. With the information I learned about movement education I know in my classroom it will be enforced and I will try to promote it within my district. The more students become active the stronger their brains will become and the healthier they will be living. By incorporating movement education in the curriculum it will make the learning atmosphere a better place for students to focus and learn any subject.

As I wearily sat in my seat, writing an essay on the importance of electricity in the modern world, I caught myself glancing repeatedly at the clock that was so carefully perched above the teacher’s desk. “Ten minutes, only ten more minutes left until school is over and I get to go home!” I told myself. In most schools, the average school day is about eight hours long. Eight hours of continuously sitting in a chair taking notes during lectures, doing classwork, projects, etc. During these eight hours of school, students deserve a short, outdoor break in which they can isolate themselves from the stress of working all day and just relax. Studies have shown that people who take short breaks throughout the day to do light, outdoor breaks are more productive than those who do not. A short, outdoor break will benefit students due to the fact that students will have time to relax; students will be able to focus more, concentrate, and be more productive; and teachers will have more time to prepare for the next class coming.

Education gives me the knowledge that I require to overcome any problem every day. Furthermore, it is more value when teachers and students are free to express their own point of view without doubts. Freire states, “Liberating education consists in acts of cognition, not transferrals of information. It is a learning situation in which the cognizable object (far from being the end of the cognitive act) intermediates the cognitive actors- teachers on the one hand and students on the other” (249). Fraire point is that the teacher and student learn each other when both communicate their ideas. I believe that learning is a journey that both child and educator set out on together. This journey is a privilege that I take seriously, realizing that a child’s early years are a key formative time in their life. I believe that it is during this time that important foundations are being set in place that will not only impact them in the present but will also influence them later on in life.
My personal philosophy of classroom management focuses on creating an environment where children feel safe and where they feel like they belong. I will create this environment for my fourth grade class through making my expectations of the students clear while developing an engaging lesson plan and personable interactions with my students. I developed my philosophy from studying different theorists and based my philosophy on the theories of Glasser and Kounin. Glasser believed that the teacher’s roll in the classroom is that of a leader rather than a boss. He believed that students should be given power in the classroom and that the teacher should share it with the students. I will use his ‘7 caring habits’ specifically supporting and respecting to help my classroom feel safe and welcoming to my students. Meeting the individual needs of my students will be the focus of my classroom management routine. I will meet individual needs by promoting self management and self efficacy in my students by creating an environment that that has predictable and consistent daily routines while focusing on my student’s successes (Shindler, 2010). Having a predictable routine will encourage a success oriented environment and will reduce anxiety and help towards creating positive self efficacy in each of my students (Shindler, 2010). Movement is one of the most highly debated topics among teachers today, as every individual has his/her own opinions in their teaching philosophy. Teachers must get around barriers caused by the high priorities of standardized testing and low effort to include movement in their classroom; therefore, it puts too much stress on the general education teachers. There are insufficient amounts of space to complete activities requiring movement when in a classroom; therefore, the teachers are incapable of safely navigating students around the room. Some students will refuse to participate in different physical activities, causing frustration when teachers are trying to plan full class activities, and this takes away from academic instruction. The importance of having a curriculum that accommodates diverse learners, it allows the child to learn at their own level or ability. I was exposed to a classroom that was very diverse and learned the importance of teaching for learner differences. Not are students are the same and when the needs of a classroom are not being met the students can quickly become frustrated and deterred from learning. When the student’s needs are being met they are able to interact with their peers without the frustration and with guidance can maintain a safe learning environment.
The one topic that was most relevant was behavioral issues, because most of the students in this classroom had behavioral problems and it affect the way they learn. It was great to see the teacher be patience, and it was very insightful to watch how she handle each behavioral problem that arose in the classroom. Another topic that arose was the different types of instruction, but as discussed early in the paper the classroom that I observed was a direct instruction.
