Education is one of the most important activities that we have to go through in our life. It is the reason why the world is where it is today. All of these progresses and inventions would have never been achieved if it was not for educated people. It helped the society to make smarter and better choices. Almost all of the inventions that make our life easier today are the outcome of education. Scientists, politicians, teachers, etc. are all first educated before they go out to the real world to practice what they have learned. Universities and colleges are the places where people go seeking for higher education. Students will do whatever they can to make sure they end up in one of these places. Unfortunately, not everybody is accepted.
Every institution has its own requirements for students have to match in order to be accepted. Not long ago, minorities used to face a very challenging situation if they wanted to get into a higher education institute. These things don’t seem to be that big of a problem right now. Students get accepted to different kinds of schools depending on how good they perform during their high school year and on their SAT test scores. The controversial issue now is whether students’ academic background should be the only factor considered in admission. Even though universities and colleges are home for knowledge and students should be accepted according to their ability to learn, other factors should also be considered to give students a second chance at a higher education institute.
Academic eligibility is a major obstacle one has to meet in order to be able to attend a higher education institution. Some people have outstanding performance that allow them to attend the college of their dreams. Others, however, may not be as smart and may lack the eligibility required to attend a college. Universities are places where students face challenging lessons and are excepted to try to the best of their ability to succeed. Those who have a better background in studying habits are more likely to succeed in school. The education we get at an early age will affect us on our journey to success. That is why universities should consider academic performance in their admission requirements. Students with satisfying SAT score and a good GPA should not be worried about getting accepted or not; They deserve it.
Affirmative action has been a controversial topic ever since it was established in the 1960s to right past wrongs against minority groups, such as African Americans, Hispanics, and women. The goal of affirmative action is to integrate minorities into public institutions, like universities, who have historically been discriminated against in such environments. Proponents claim that it is necessary in order to give minorities representation in these institutions, while opponents say that it is reverse discrimination. Newsweek has a story on this same debate which has hit the nation spotlight once more with a case being brought against the University of Michigan by some white students who claimed that the University’s admissions policies accepted minority students over them, even though they had better grades than the minority students. William Symonds of Business Week, however, thinks that it does not really matter. He claims that minority status is more or less irrelevant in college admissions and that class is the determining factor.
When looking at attending class from the perspective of a college student it should hopefully be easy to understand why you should attend. For most students the answer would consist of something along the lines of ‘to better educate myself’ or ‘so I can get a better paying job’, both of which seem plausible. However, those from past generations and those with different demographics might look at this question much differently, due to a college education not always being a necessity to become successful in life. Therefore older generations may have looked at skipping class in a different light than a 20 year-old would today. With much higher stakes to do well in both primary and higher education courses causes cutting class to carry great risk
Racial preference has indisputably favored Caucasian males in society. Recently this dynamic has been debated in all aspects of life, including college admission. Racial bias has intruded on the students’ rights to being treated fairly. Admitting students on merit puts the best individuals into the professional environment. A university’s unprejudiced attitude towards race in applicants eliminates biases, empowers universities to harness the full potential of students’ intellect, and gives students an equal chance at admission.
Is receiving a college education over rated or is it the beginning of obtaining the American Dream? There have been many conversations about receiving a College Education in the 21st century. Many believe that getting a college education is the gateway to entering into the middle class America that consists of professionals such as lawyers, physicians, teachers, and nurses. Some also believe that having a college education has a significantly larger rate of return for every individual that attends college. Obtaining a college education prepares students for life; it produces better paying jobs. Having a college education is the most valuable asset anyone can obtain, it opens up many different doors of opportunity.
Many Americans today tend to believe that a college education is valuable financially, yet some others strongly oppose this, since they look at the college education as being both time and money consuming. A person who successfully completes a college education may obtain one or all of the following; an associate’s degree after two years, a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or a PhD. The institutions that provide the college education can be public or private. Whereas a college education might be seen as being very expensive, it actually increases people’s chances of getting higher paying jobs, instills knowledge into them, and raises their enjoyment levels.
How important is a college education? High school seniors should consider going to college because students who gain a college education often have higher lifetime earnings and a great quantity of other benefits. There are more employers who choose to hire applicants with college degrees. People who lack college degrees are more likely to be limited to basic jobs. Those with a high school education may obtain jobs with good benefits, but college graduates often earn better. Although going to college costs a lot, it is actually true that high school seniors should go to college because they’ll learn more skills that can be applied to their jobs and they’ll have much more benefits while having a career.
Racial diversity is a desired concept that intends to secure the right of equal opportunity that is promised to all citizens of the United States. Such an idealistic vision has been attempted through a process called affirmative action. As a program created from the 14th Amendment, affirmative action aims to impose “equal protection of the laws” by requiring schools to adopt a quota for the enrollment of minorities. This program is intended to compensate for the centuries of discrimination that minorities have faced, but affirmative action has became problematic as it has failed to do this. Affirmative action is not the solution to ensure equal opportunity for minorities to access higher education. Although affirmative action has increased diversity in selective schools, it defeats its purpose because the resulting diversity is not equal representation of the nation’s communities , the process has led to reverse discrimination, and the education standard has been lowered in the selective schools.
The desire to further education is essential because it expands the mind of a person. College is implemented to attend a school for four plus years and hope to get a job after graduation. Without higher education there would not be any scientist or engineers in the world to continue to make society run smoother. However, it’s actually more than that, it creates long term friendship and builds independence.
While in high school, all you hear is people asking questions such as what college are you planning to attend once you’ve graduated, and what are you planning on majoring in, assuming you are going. Although, what if you do not want to go straight to college once you have graduated high school? What if the student’s want to wait, should you still push high school students to go to a university even though they do not wish to attend a college? High schools advertise institutions of higher education and make it sound like the only option available and if you, the student, choose not to do it you are put down or are made to feel as if you are not as good as other students that are going to a four-year college. By filling
People have very different reasons on why going to college and getting an education is important for them. Some people go to college because that is what is expected of them, and others go because they have nothing else better to do. However, I am interested in going to college and obtaining a good education because it will benefit my family, my country, and me.
College. It is the seven-letter word that almost every child will hear thousands of times while they are growing up. They constantly are bombarded by the idea that they must go to college if they want to be successful. However, what if this is a false statement. What if college isn’t as great as everyone makes it out to seem. Well, these days some people believe that young people are better off, not going to college. Over the years the economy around the world has changed. It has prospered, and it has fallen. As the economy went downhill the government began cutting funds in areas that they felt were necessary to exterminate. One of the largest areas of funding that was cut was education. Colleges began receiving less money from the government, resulting in a rapid increase of college tuition fees. Due to this, a lot of people believe that college tuition is too expensive for what you get, and not worth the money. However, most people believe that college is necessary in order to further their education, and in order for them to earn their degree. They think that this degree has the ability to help college graduates get a job and work up to a career that only someone with a college level degree is able to achieve. The truth lies in the facts, and statistics. College is the seven-letter word that all people should be thinking about. A college education is a valuable investment that everyone should strive to achieve, and is completely worth the expensive cost.
The relationship between college and university are influential in our society. To have an educated society in the United States brings a safe and peaceful environment to live in. An educated society also avoids social problems such as poverty, gangs, drugs and health related sickness. Most of all, having an educated society helps our country’s economy.
