Atlantis the Lost City

About 11,000 years ago, in the somewhere in the Atlantic ocean, was an island called Atlantis. In atlantis there resided a race of people with great technologies far more advanced than any other (“Lost Civilizations:The Story of Atlantis”). According to Greek mythology, Atlantis was home of the Greek god, Poseidon. Poseidon fell in love with a mortal woman and built her a home in the middle of the island and surrounded it with water and land to keep her protected (“Lost Civilization:The Story of Atlantis”). Near the middle of the island a temple was built to honor Poseidon; the temple contained a large golden statue of Poseidon riding a chariot with winged horses. Atlantis grew rich because of its plentiful harvests and exotic herbs and spices. After some time the inhabitants of Atlantis started to become greedy and power hungry, to punish the Atlanteans, Zeus and the other gods forced the sea to swallow the great city(“Lost Civilization:The Story of Atlantis”). Is the city of Atlantis just apart of a greek story or was it actually a grand and prosperous city?
The only known writing about the lost city comes from a greek philosopher, named Plato. There is much controversy as to how credible his story actually is. Plato was born around 428 BC in Athens (“Plato - Biography”). He was in the Athenian military until after the peloponnesian war. After his service in the military he set out and join the oligarchy. Soon he became tired of politics and became a writer and moved around the world studying (“Plato - Biography”). Platos became a very well known writer. He then returned back to Athens and founded a school called The Academy. He tutored many great greek rulers, including Aristotle and Dionysus II, the ruler of Syracuse. He taug...

... that it will one day be found. Through all of the evidence supporting both sides of the argument, the reader can decide if Atlantis truly did exist.
