Space food are variety of food that are created and processed for consumption by astronauts in outer space. The NASA early astronauts had to eat in space in order to do a testament. John Glenn was the first American man who went on the moon who ate in a space environment that was weightless, and discovered that the task of eating was fairly easy. Several astronauts ate items that were bite-sized cubes, made from powders and semi liquids which were wrapped in aluminum tubes. Most astronauts agreed that the foods were not fulfilling or unappetizing and dislike the fact that they had to squeeze the food from tube like items. Moreover, the food was hard to rehydrate and crumbs had to be prevented from fouling instruments. The Scientist complained about going on missions to test and improve the food that they ate. The foods that were manufactured were always in squeeze tube. As a matter of fact, the bite-sized were coated with gelatin to reduce crumbling, and the freeze-dried foods were not very tasty (NASA). If they had an improved packages of food the food quality and menus would be more fulfilling for the astronauts. So, the astronauts had food such as: chicken, vegetables, butterscotch pudding, apple sauce and combinations of selective of foods that they would like. However, with the initiation of the Apollo program, the quality of the food was improved with a variety of foods to choose from. The Apollo astronauts were the first to have hot water, resulted in food being rehydrated foods easily. They were also the first to use spoon, bowl, and plastic containers. As years went by, the task of eating in space got a big boost from Skylab; additional, there were tables and rooms for the astronauts to have their lunch. There were ... ... middle of paper ... ...ve also discovered, researched, and experimented in trying to find new ways into growing crop in space. The agency also recently announced plans to grow cress, turnips and much more. In order, for them to do so they will need to protect the plants from harmful radiation and the lack of atmosphere. That is not the only research NASA is trying to experiment on how people can actually live and grow crops on the moon. Moreover, growing plants on the moon would be very challenging because the moon surface temperature is about 150 degree and on the other side it is negative 150 degrees. So, if they had to grow plants on the moon for astronauts to eat, the plants that NASA send up there would be expose to the temperature and harsh radiation. This is just the first step in the experiment of trying to exploring crops on the moon and how astronauts are able to eat in space.

The Oscar Mayer team decided to come up with a product that is known today as Lunchables. Lunchables became a popular product due to the fact it was convenient. The convenience of Lunchables was due to the fact that it was a chilled prepared food. The original Lunchables contained red meat, cheese, crackers, a napkin and a juice. Since the Lunchables gained a lot of attention the producers of Lunchables decided to add various different kinds of Lunchables. Lunchables varied from pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs and more. The new kinds of Lunchables also included sugary drinks and desert such as cookies and or candy. Researchers studied the Lunchables and deemed them a disaster. They stated that Lunchables co...

In the article “The End of Food,” Lizzie Widdicombe describes an advancement of our food culture through a new product developed by three young men living in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. After failing to produce new inexpensive cellphone towers on a hundred seventy thousand dollar investment, the three men went on to try and develop software with their remaining funding. While trying to maximize their funding’s longevity, they realized that their biggest budget impediment was food. In fact, it reached the point where their diet comprised of mostly fast food, and eventually they despised the fact that they had to spend so much time and money on eating. Due to this hardship, Rob Rhinehart, one of the entrepreneurs, came up with the
Food today is dramatically different today then it was in the sixties. Today we are overwhelmed with choices of products. Back in the day we did not have as many brands of cereal and food to try to choose between. Fast food chains were not as popular. In the sixties you could get
“Food is the material object we have the most intimate contact with on a daily basis.” Stated in research paper called Survivor Woman: colonial edition, this statement magnifies that role that food plays in people’s lives. Most people are almost constantly preoccupied physically and mentally with food. Not only that it is vital part of human life where without it, it would be impossible to continue on with one’s life. Also a great deal of time we spend with food tells us that people are inseparably connected to each our food that we eat. (Gabaccia, 7) We spend time with food preparing meals everyday, thinking about what to eat for lunch or dinner, and we also taking time eat. Beyond simply necessary human obligation, eating has important implications on how we think of ourselves, mainly how we relate to a specific culture of which we are a part. Food study and cultural identity is bound to be connected.
At first President Taft and Nathaniel Yorke-Davis exchanged countless letters in a span of 10 years talking about his food consumption, digestive issues, his workout regiment and his bowel movements. Yorke-Davis was a strict dietitian giving the President a rigid regiment to follow. His diet consisted of “lots of lean meat, fish and vegetables without butter and gluten (wheat) biscuits, which Taft ordered from a bakery in London” (Hellmich 1). The President was also prohibited in eating sugar or any sweets and was only allowed to eat what Nathaniel permitted. As well as providing a list of William Taft’s diet schedule, the phys...
During the time of the movement west, food played an important role in the pioneers day to day life. Food played an important role during the 1800s because it kept people alive during hard times. The pioneers stored their food in many different ways, and they ate, prepared, and made their own food.
Customers/Consumers were worried about the changes in the market for food and drugs because they no longer had a single clue of what was in their products. Food production was moving from household prepared to general markets. As food markets became more refined due to the improvement of technology. The difficulty in discerning the quality of their product heightened. With new and quicker ways make food, fears of the ingredients that the foods consisted grew. Preservatives and chemicals also instilled a concern to consumers. Health officials, chemists, and other individuals tested and proved the dangers of these new additives.
An astronaut is person who is trained to travel in a spacecraft, they’re also known as Cosmonaut. Astronauts are usually trained by human spaceflight programs by governments or by civilian space agencies to command, pilot or even serve as a crew member of the spacecraft. The word “Astronaut” is derived from Greek words meaning “space sailor”, space sailors are all those who are launched by NASA as crew members. However, NASA and the Russian Federal Space Agency used the term “spaceflight participant” to distinguish between space travelers and professional astronauts.
During her time more than 5,000 women graduated from her department, which became the best in the country. In 1907, Isabel Bevier applied the principles of chemistry to the study of food preparation and preservation. She reported findings about the chemical processes of bread making, and was also the first person in this country to have the idea of using food thermometers to monitor the cooking of meat. Furthermore, she made contributions to our understanding of various means of food substitutes. Likewise, Bevier studied other foods and wrote bulletins and many books including; The House, published in 1907, and Home Economics in Education (1924). Bevier’s “The house” served as the basic introductory textbook for her original course at the University of Illinois. This book also displays Bevier’s views on the importance of applying science to the challenges faced by families, and to the importance of educating women. Her second and final book “Home Economics” illustrated her ideas about home economics
Over the years food has changed from more natural occurring products to quick and easily accessible ones. I for one blame the companies who accept and encourage this. From the previous essay, it also provides a series of questions for which we should be analyzing our food: “How fresh is it? How far was it transported? How pure or clean is it?” (Berry). Simply, we need to be more aware about our food. Food used to be only grown. There was no way
Nutrition is a basic necessity of life. Without a proper and well-balanced diet, it is difficult for any being, regardless of species, to survive. Unlike that of primates such as the great apes, the human diet is more full of calories and nutrients. Humans have a great understanding of what types of food are necessary to maintain good health. It is difficult to tell when the eating habits of Homo sapiens split apart from the eating habits of these other primates. Yet, one fact is certain. As human evolution continues to progress, the human diet also continues to evolve.
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are good for you and what they do to help the body function.
