Joel's Dream
Joel was sitting in the airport lounge, sipping his mineral water, when the
tanoy came on," BA flight two-six-one to Milan is now boarding. Please make your
way to departure gate three, Thank you."
" That's me! See you later Shaz, I'll phone you when I get there !"
" See you Joel, hope everything goes okay!"
After exchanging kisses, Joel picked up his bags and heads off through the
Departures corridor and to the plane.
Joel was possibly the best talent to come out of Scotland for years. He
could play football with such style and skill, this was why he had been offered
the most lucrative deal for a Scottish player ever. AC Milan, arguably the
greatest team in the world had offered him a deal which would see him earn more
than £40000 a week. This would make him the highest paid player in Europe and
accelerate him to the top of world football.
He was due to meet the manager on Monday to discuss the terms of his
contract and if all went well he would sign for Milan and fulfill his dream of
being a star footballer and also make his wife Sharon very very happy. Sharon
was a gold digger and was after Joel for his money, but she did stick by him,
they had been married for two years and if Joel got the contract Sharon would be
able to move to Milan and have everything and have everything she desired. So
obviously she was very determined to see this deal go through.
After arriving at the hotel Joel settles in and unpacks before going to
the Milan training camp to meet the players and his (hopefully) new manager,
Roberto Ravelli.
" Hello! I'm Erigo I will be your guide while you are in Italy. I'm sorry if
my English is no good but I am still getting lessons. Anyway welcome to Italy!!
Anywhere you want to go I will take you."
" Oh thanks but I just want to meet the players then go back to the hotel and
get some rest."
" I understand it has been a long flight and you need to rest."
" Yeah maybe we can go somewhere tomorrow or something!" said Joel who was
getting a bit bored of talking and just wanted to get home and sleep.
" OK then it's a date," replied Erigo." But I've been instructed to take you
on a tour of the stadium before you go!"
Throughout history, authors have teased their readers with the idea of what the future might bring. Often times these stories are littered with new technology and fascinating theories, but occasionally it is the contrary. In the situation where society has taken a step back, there must be a character to give civilization a kick start. In the novella Anthem, by Ayn Rand, society is bound to collectivism, where everyone relies upon each other to live and learn; but the protagonist, Equality 7-2521, is able to break free from the fear of independence and move toward individualism. During the course of the story, Equality discovers the freedom he can bring himself. Then he realizes his mind is the door to the truth, not society. Finally, Equality recognizes himself as different from the rest of the population. These steps toward individualism are perfectly embodied by three quotes Rand incorporates in her story.
I have always loved them and held their ideals and hopes to heart, but Anthem has been one that has opened my eyes to larger world. Rand showed a world of misery and a hope of freedom to me through her books. Her choice of words continued her story in a manner of which I could see, feel, and understand what Equality was experiencing. There was no point where I felt alone in working with my partner. I got to work in a group and experience the book with another; but ,like the ideals of a perfect society, I was able to separate from them to continue my own thoughts. This book required more of my time due to the extra procedures, but it made the story a much more hard hitting story as I experienced Equality’s life and of being the person who passed on the story that may be forgotten in later times to

Every individual person must forge their own path to freedom in order to become victorious. In Ayn Rand’s novella Anthem, it is almost impossible to have a personal victory. However, in the collectivist society that Equality lives in, he has a true victory, one that can only be attributed to himself. In Equality’s case, he must break free from the shackles of his oppressive society to achieve his own victory of becoming a free individual.
First, Equality should be correct in changing his view about his society. Since he was a child he was “not happy in those years in the Home of the Students. It was not that the learning was too hard for us. It was that the learning was too easy. This is a great sin” (Rand, 21). It is a shame that he
Equality 7-2521 struggles in the Home of the Students because he is too intelligent and deft at absorbing information. The ability to think quickly and easily was looked down upon by the teachers and the government. Equality notes, “It was not that the learning was too hard for us. It was that that the learning was too easy. This is a great sin, to be born with a head which is too quick. It is not good to be different from our brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them. The teachers told us so…” (21). The students are taught that being intelligent is evil and that they cannot be superior in knowledge than the officials in the government. Equality’s intelligence leads to his job as a Street Sweeper because the government wants to suppress radical ideas by assigning him to a socially lower job and authoritative status. As literary critic Tore Boeckmann states about Anthem, “[Equality] belong[s] at the pinnacle of any rational social hierarchy, yet [he is] thrown (at least temporarily) to the very bottom” (135). Overall, the public citizens in Anthem are extremely selfless and lack a sense of self-worth because the government wants them to put the good of the community above the

This new revenue will follow the forecasted growth of 9% from 2010. In this calculation the increase of broadcasting rights have been included and the £20M transfer fee has been accounted as a tax deduction. Thus adding the cost and revenue of new player will increase the NPV to £82.32M.
To have a good friendship you have to have trust. If you don’t trust your friend, well they’re not really your friend. I think you should be able to tell your friend anything that come to your head. Whenever you have something you need to talk about and you can’t tell anyone you should be able to tell your friend. When trusting someone you should be able to leave them with your most prized possession and not once think twice about whether it’s in safe hands. You should feel very comfortable by your ...
Friendship is the most wonderful relationship that anyone can have. Ideally a friend is a person who offers love and respect and will never leave or betray us. Friends can tell harsh truths when they must be told. There are four different types of friends: True friends, Convenient friends, Special interest friends, and historical friends. To have friendship is to have comfort. In times of crisis and depression, a friend is there to calm us and to help lift up our spirits.
