Buried at Sea
"Ahh, there's no wind today," sighed Cobi as he tacked his sail around and
headed for the shore. Cobi was a sailor. Cobi wasn't a typical sailor, Cobi
was a National Championship winning sailor. A sailor who thrived on high winds
and rough seas, who has accomplished everything there is to accomplish in
Canadian sailing. He is the envy of every young sailor and child. They wish,
aspire, and dream to be like Cobi.
"Hii Cooobiii," wines Julie. Julie just happened to be standing on the
dock of the Yacht Club as Cobi tied his luminous, new, nine-thousand dollar boat
to its mooring. Julie, was just one part of Cobi's large female entourage, who
followed and prayed on his every move and breath. Cobi Jones was not only very
skilled in the nautical art of sailing, he was the most popular, the best
looking, and even one of the smartest kids in school.
"Hi Julie," moaned Cobi in reply, "what are you doing here?"
A shocked, but smiling Julie answered, "Just came to see ya."
"Well visiting hours are over," Cobi uttered as he pushed past Julie and
trekked up the rocky shore to his home. His home! His home was a picturesque
array of hand-crafted pillars and intricate woodwork that beautified even the
aesthetic sandy ocean beach that encompassed it. As always, after sailing
practise, he was greeted by a honk and a wave from his father returning from
work. His father was a partner in Jones, Jefferson, and Deveau, the most
successful law firm in Nova Scotia. He was able to fund Cobi's sailing career
from the start, and his money played a very large role in Cobi's sailing success
and popularity. Other than Cobi's majestic surroundings, Cobi led a typical
eighteen year-old after school life. He ate, did homework, spoke to his many
friends the phone, and then fell asleep with a remote control in his grip. This
evening wasn't an exception.
The following day at school, Cobi was greeted by all of his friends and
sailing cohorts and he sauntered to his first class. The greetings ranged from
"Hey man", to "What's up", and to the simple "Hi". Cobi habitually responded
with a mumbled "Yo." Sometime after an insightful, and invigorating lecture from
his favourite English teacher Dr. Noble, he ran into his friend and sailing
crewman Greg. "Hey man, what're ya doin' after school today?" asked Cobi.
"Nothin' man, it's too messy out. That hurricane's gonna hit tonight you
know," replied Greg.
"I know man, that's why I asked"
just as any other morning, his father rises early and puts on his clothes in the
Romeo and Juliet has many themes which are fate, death and love, these are all intertwined. At the very beginning of the play, before we even know the characters, we know that ‘death-marked’ ‘Star crossed lovers’ will ‘take their lives’ which already brings in the major themes. Shakespeare uses dramatic irony throughout the play and builds up the tension until Act 3 scene 1 where death starts to play a role. The Prologue also informs us about the Montagues and Capulets dislike for each other. The theme of love is also there thought the play. There are different types of love, the unrequited love the Romeo feels for Rosaline and that Paris feels for Juliet. There is also the love between friends such as with Romeo and Mercutio as Mercutio dies to protect Romeo’s honour and then Romeo avenges his death, and then the romantic love Romeo and Juliet share. I believe the Mercutio is one of the main characters in this play. His speeches tell us a lot about him and his actions have a large affect on the ending of the play. Mercutio’s name means mercurial meaning “an unpredictable and fast changing mood” which is an accurate description of Mercutio's personality because in Queen Mabs speech at the beginning he is joking and seeking attention, but at the end he becomes serious and angry.
Mercutio, the joker and comic relief of the play, dies first and foremost. Tybalt spies Romeo at Lord Capulet’s extravaganza and vows to continue his fighting match by saying:
As the birds are singing their sweet melody, the terrain of Arlington National Cemetery is filled with sadness. Although the brilliant rays of sun are shinning through the thick colossal treetops, there is a chill in the air. While watching the mourners, the feeling of their sorrows is all too real.
...ifferent countries writing two different styles, still somehow both decide to use similar picture perfect relationships between Gregor and Grete and Florentino and Fermina and then both use money to destroy them suggests the importance of these consistencies and their contributions to the works. In the case of The Metamorphosis, one must consider that there were other reasons as to why a change took place in the relationship of Gregor and Grete, including Grete’s not being able to handle her brother’s new physique. Ultimately, however, the three boarders were the most significant. After reading these works, one can entertain the thought that authors single most important contributions to their works is the use of an outside force to initiate change in the two main relationships. If it wasn’t for the introduction of these forces, each story would have been pointless.
Mercutio and Benvolio encountered Tybalt on the street of Verona and soon enough the newly wed Romeo came. Tybalt then provokes a fight with Romeo, " 'Romeo the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: Thou art a villain', said Tybalt." Shakespeare's play (3, 1, 61-62, 119). Romeo, on the other hand, turned down Tybalt's invitation with a response of, " 'Villain I am none. Therefore, farewell. I see thou knowest me not.' " (3, 1, 65-66, 119). Mercutio was greatly disappointed with Romeo so he just accepted Tybalt's challenge, which caused his death. Mercutio died cursing the Capulets and Montagues. Romeo felt the pain of Mercutio's lost. He craved for revenge over Tybalt so he slain him from his return. The lost of a best friend pushed Romeo to kill Tybalt. He never realized that it would end up that way, that he will lose him. It was the moment that he felt the importance of Mercutio in his life.
