Abortion - America Must Remain the Land of the Free-Choice
Without a woman's right to do what she chooses with her body, her
freedom and liberty are taken away. If for personal reasons, a women wants
an abortion, as is, currently, her constitutional right, she has the
freedom to do so. In some states, a woman's freedom to have an abortion
has been severely limited. Because of this, many women have had abortions
by people not medically licensed to perform them. Many of these unlicensed
and unqualified people have used unsterile instruments, thus causing
illness or death. A child needs to be loved and wanted. A baby whose
mother resents his birth, will not receive the proper care and nurturing he
deserves. Perhaps, he would be better off not to have been born. For
these reasons, I support the Pro-Choice movement.
We all know America as the "land of the free", as sung daily by
many in "The Star Spangled Banner". Knowing that many women's autonomy has
been taken away, how can we, Americans, who claim to be people of liberty,
say the words of "The Star Spangled Banner" in good conscience? Females
have been told what to do with and how to treat their bodies. If the right
to self-determination is taken away, what will be decided for us next?
What we can wear? What we can read and what we can say? Possibly even how
we can act? This is not the American way! In fact, it is unconstitutional.
We must be aware of this lack of freedom and see to it that women receive
it.
Sadly, there are many people who can not afford to support a child.
There are people who hate themselves and are incapable of loving another.
As I see it, it is fortunate, that some women may realize that they are not
fit to and can not care for a youngster. However, an anti-abortion law may
not give them any other choice. A mother willing to give up her offspring,
is likely to resent her own child. This resentment might result in neglect.
I would like to propose a compromise. Let there be a law requiring
counseling for someone planning on having an abortion.
Consequently, not only do we have independence and free will, but also have a representative government. We are currently living our lives based on the ideas in choosing what is best for the people and the society. Today, the equality of men and women are one of the virtues that the founding father had in mind, but unfortunately did not get to get the recognition and is not being put into full affect. I believe the right of equality and freedom for the most under represented group in America, women. Many people think that women these days cannot do as many things men are able to do. Living in this generation, there are may sexists out there that will turn a single woman down because they think that a woman cannot succeed in a challenging task that is usually expected from a man. American women should have just the same amount of equality and freedom as
Women’s rights have come along way to being equal to men. But if people (not just women keep working on it we can make the gap between men and women even smaller.
Women in many societies have fought for obtaining their equal right to men for a long time, and the society where I’ve inhabited for 20 years are involved as well. It has been very tough circumstances for women to struggle since the society has been shaped by history how a woman should live and behave. Women were continuing to be oppressed and limited based on gender and class as they are regarded as inferior to men physically and mentally. This connection between class and gender of women still remain in this society even though many women got equal right as
"Free America: Is Freedom Really Free? We all say we live in a free society, but if you cross the street without using a crosswalk, you could be arrested. How can that be freedom? When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem free.
It's Time for Americans to Understand that Freedom Isn't Free. I feel inspired and patriotic every time I see a car’s back bumper sticker featuring an American flag stating, “Freedom Isn’t Free!” The moral clarity of those words rings as true as the Liberty Bell. Those Americans that do not fathom the significance of the motto Freedom Isn’t Free suffer from the very problematic “victim/slave mentality,” which ultimately will become a future reality should more citizens not heed the simple message the sage language conveys.
Throughout history and even today women are regarded as inconsequential. They are chattels or servants, a person without rights. In some present instances, women are struggling to show that they do have rights and can make a contribution to society if given the chance.
The Great Concept of American Freedom Early America was a place for anyone to live their life the way that they wanted, as it is now, but back then this was a new concept. Much of this idea comes from the freedoms obtained by living here. Many other countries in the world had many freedoms, but not as numerous as they were in America shortly after the country was founded. Americans during the late 1700's and early 1800's embraced their freedoms and became leaders and expanders, and what we now consider the founders of many present-day cities and towns. One thing that has been present throughout the generations of people living in America, is the desire to set themselves apart from other nations.
Women have been treated unequally since the beginning of time. Just recently have things began to change for the better for women and the future of our society. The increase in women’s equality rights will take time, but some day women and men will be treated equally. This cannot happen until each of us is able to look at a person and just see another individual, not a male or a female, white or black, rich or poor… a person as just a person.
The thought of freedom seldom enters the mind of an American woman today. Currently women can vote, hold office, ascertain any profession (if she so desires), and even run for the presidency! Women have far outstepped the boundaries of obedient housewife, they have discarded the restraints of domestic duties and strived for a greater goal, a common objective - to be equal to, or greater than, their virile counterpart. In a world where the gender role is becoming increasingly less defined, where men become “mannies” or assume the position of “househusband,” it is easy to overlook the past. One simply forgets the plights of her ancestors, when embracing the copious liberties available to the modern woman.
This analysis of Oedipus’s character shows how Oedipus, the protagonist and the antagonist against himself, dealt with unfortunate situations which sealed his fate. Oedipus was a strange round character that was really interesting and mysterious. Oedipus’s life was a good example of a true Greek tragedy; he worked himself up to be a great king and ultimately in the end he died with only his perception on life. Oedipus was once a man of power who falls impoverished. He goes from having much respect in his great position to being impure, blind, and expelled from the land that he once ruled.
These three groups were then asked to complete three different tasks. The first was to repeat and segment 20 different words (5 consonant-vowel-consonant, 5 CCVC, 5 CVCC, and 5 CCVCC) and two overall scores were administered to the participants. Both scores were out of a maximum of 20 points; the first score was based on giving 1 point for each correctly analyzed word, and the second score was based on giving 1 point for correctly analyzing medial vowels.
Women Deserve the Same Rights as Men From the beginning of time, women have played a powerful role in the shaping of this world. They have stood by idly and watched as this country moved on without them, and yet they have demanded equal rights as the nation rolls along. Through the years, the common belief has been that women could not perform as well as men in anything, but over the years that belief has been proven wrong time and time again. So as time marches on, women have clawed and fought their way up the ladder to gain much needed equal respect from the opposite sex. However, after many years of pain and suffering, the battle for equal rights has not yet been won.
As we all know, women and men are different in their own distinctive ways. But together they make for a great partnership in the work field. Equality among men and women for the rights to coexist has moved our country in a new direction for women within the last century. The feminist movement was widely needed between 1848 and the 1920’s because women lacked the right to vote, among other things. Since women have been able to get to where they have been going within the movement, success for them has been greater than ever in modern times. But, there is always room for improvement in other aspects of equality. While we may never achieve perfect gender equality, there is still some injustices should not be overlooked. Women may be able to be
Throughout most famous Greek literature, a great hero usually saves the day. In the story of Oedipus though, the good man with one minor flaw goes through great pain. This pain in the play Oedipus Rex is the focal point for the whole play. Almost every aspect of the play builds up and foreshadows Oedipus’ fall from power, and entry into pain. Sophocles in his tragedy Oedipus Rex creates a mood of dramatic irony using the dualities of sight and blindness, and light and darkness. This dramatic irony highlights Oedipus’ hamartia and in doing so Sophocles enhances his message that arrogance and is wrong.
Oedipus is depicted as a “marionette in the hands of a daemonic power”(pg150), but like all tragic hero’s he fights and struggles against fate even when the odds are against him. His most tragic flaw is his morality, as he struggles between the good and the evil of his life. The good is that he was pitied by the Shepard who saved him from death as a baby. The evil is his fate, where he is to kill his father and marry his mother. His hubris or excessive pride and self-righteousness are the lead causes to his downfall. Oedipus is a tragic hero who suffers the consequences of his immoral actions, and must learn from these mistakes. This Aristotelian theory of tragedy exists today, as an example of what happens when men and women that fall from high positions politically and socially.
